2022 Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton Five-Star Plus+ defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton is the top uncommitted prospect in the 2022 class. Overton, who reclassified from the 2023 class to the 2022 class, is largely down to three schools: Texas A&M, Georgia and Oregon. The five-star is set to announce his commitment on Friday afternoon.

Overton’s decision to shut down his recruitment came just days after his weekend official visit to Texas A&M and per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Texas A&M is the heavy favorites to land Overton at 96.4%. Overton made visits to both Georgia and Oregon earlier in March, with plans to visit Oklahoma and Ohio State in April, though those plans are now off.

There has been some recent buzz around Jackson State potentially pulling off another surprise in the 2022 class. Though the Tigers aren’t expected to have a hat on the table, a surprise commitment to Jackson State is highly unlikely just hours out from the event, but something to be a little wary of.

Texas A&M already has the No. 1 class in the 2022 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking with 29 commits, eight of whom are five-star prospects. Landing Overton would give the Aggies nine five-star prospects and eight defensive linemen in the cycle.

Overton is set to announce his decision on Friday at 3 pm EST on ESPN2 during halftime of the Geico High School Basketball Nationals live from Milton High School. On3’s own Joseph Hastings will be live from the event so stay tuned for live updates from Overton’s commitment.

3:15 EST: Lebbeus Overton has committed to Texas A&M!

3:12 EST: Ceremony is starting – Hastings

3:11 EST: Crowd is having a good laugh here as L.T. Overton repeatedly tried to talk into the mic. Audio is not coming through to ESPN still. They’ve ditched the Air Pods for a microphone, but to no avail. – Hastings

3:05 EST: Some audio issues here. They’re working on it right now. Seems like they’re not able to hear L.T. – Hastings

2:56 EST: The room just got an announcement that there’s four minutes left to go in the half of the IMG vs. Montverde game. Once it hits halftime, they’ll receive communication in an earpiece that L.T. Overton can come to the table and get ready to announce. L.T. and his mom are both sitting at the table now. – Hastings

2:54 EST: One of Overton’s teammates leaned over and told me the five-star defensive lineman is going to shock the world by picking Oregon. General consensus from speaking with a handful of teammates this week was that A&M is going to come out on top, with one prediction in favor of Georgia. – Hastings

2:45 EST: Was told that the announcement will be made during halftime of the Montverde vs. IMG Academy basketball game, which is being broadcasted on ESPN 2 right now. – Hastings

2:38 EST: People are starting to pour into the media center ahead of Overton’s ceremony. L.T. seems calm and relaxed ahead of this decision.

Quick note, but it seems like Overton will be talking through his Air Pods, not into a microphone, when making his announcement. A piece of paper with a pen is on the table.

I believe another person will pull a shirt with the team of choice for Overton, based on directions his mom was giving someone at the table. – Hastings

2:27 EST: Overton’s mother, Eunice Thomas, is in the media center, but Overton has left. It is unclear when he will be back. Three hats are on the table. From left to right, those hats are Georgia, Texas A&M, and Oregon. Let the hat scientists determine what that order means. – Hastings

2:08 EST: Just arrived at the media center at Milton High School. Overton is here with (who I presume to be) his parents. A table is set up with three chairs and a Milton Eagles backdrop, but no hats are on the table. No crowd yet, though this small room should start to fill up as his 3:00 p.m. EST announcement time inches closer. – Joseph Hastings

1:59 EST: On3’s Joseph Hastings has arrived at Milton High School.
