Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and former Ohio State star Dwayne Haskins was killed Saturday morning after getting hit by a car in South Florida, his agent told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The sudden news broke the hearts of many friends and teammates who knew the 24-year old quarterback well.

Haskins was getting ready for his second season with the Steelers after starting his career with the Washington Commanders. He didn’t play for Pittsburgh last season, but the Steelers decided to bring him back to potentially back up Mitchell Trubisky.

In two years with Washington before getting to Pittsburgh, Haskins threw for 2,804 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Commanders drafted him as the No. 15 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft after a standout career at Ohio State. With the Buckeyes, he was First Team All-Big Ten and the Big Ten Championship MVP in 2018 before also winning Rose Bowl MVP.

Friends, teammates remember Dwayne Haskins

As the news broke Saturday morning that Dwayne Haskins had died, many of his friends and teammates from over the years at Ohio State and in the NFL offered their condolences and reacted to the heartbreaking situation.

Former Ohio State teammate Michael Thomas, now a wide receiver with the New Orleans Saints, was among the first to take his thoughts to Twitter. Although he could not find many words.

While Thomas could not find the words to say, he later posted a picture of the two on the sideline during college.

Chris Olave, a projected first round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft reacted with a brief message when he learned about the death of Dwayne Haskins on Saturday morning.

Teradja Mitchell provided one of the most detailed tributes, speaking to who Dwayne Haskins was off the field as well as on it.

Former Ohio State and NFL wide receiver turned Buckeyes assistant coach Brian Hartline quickly reacted as well.

Another former wide receiver, Parris Campbell, posted multiple pictures of the time the two teammates shared together at Ohio State, letting his quarterback know he will be missed.

Former Ohio State basketball star Evan Turner also reacted to the loss of a school legend by reminding everyone that the young quarterback is gone too soon.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith expressed his shock to here the devastating news on Saturday morning with a message and a picture of the two together.

In addition, current Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud, although never a teammate of Dwayne Haskins, reacted to the sad news of his death on Twitter.

As the current Ohio State players continued to learn about the sad death of a team legend, offensive lineman Paris Johnson reflected on the friendship he developed over the years.

Another Ohio State staff member who knew Haskins well, quarterback coach Corey Dennis, held a close bond and posted an image of the young quarterback holding his child.

Tyquan Lewis spoke to the character of Haskins in his comment, remembering the person he was off the field.

Former teammate KJ Hill became the latest to chime in on the news on Saturday afternoon.
