There are few things that run as deep as rivalries in college sports. And this year’s NCAA Tournament has shown us some amazing examples of that. On Friday afternoon, Oakland Golden Grizzlies head coach Greg Kampe shared a funny story on his X account about what happened after they knocked Kentucky out of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

After the Golden Grizzlies knocked them out of the big dance this year, Louisville fans let them know how excited they were in a number of ways.

You can watch the tournament live on Prime Video, add on your favorite channels and watch at home or on your phone and laptop at work!

“A Louisville resident and obvious fan sent Oakland a check with a nice note. He says he normally sends a certain amount each year to the school that knocks Kentucky out of the tournament. This year because of OUr story he doubled the amount. Truly the definition of March Madness,” Kampe wrote on his official X account, formerly known as Twitter.

Oakland instantly became one of the darlings of the 2024 NCAA Tournament, after they knocked out Kentucky thanks to an avalanche of three-pointers from sharpshooter Jack Gohlke.

Gohlke finished the Golden Grizzlies’ win with 32 points after going 10-20 (50%) from three on the night. Most of that damage came in a blistering and stunning first half where he went 7-13 (53.8%) from three. That set the record for most threes ever against Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament with it only being halftime.

After switching Antonio Reeves onto him, Golhke had a slightly less-explosive second half at 3-7 (42.9%). Still, the damage was already done as he downed the Wildcats and became the face of their latest disappointment. It only added to the sting of last year’s disappointment for Kentucky, losing to No. 15 seed, Saint Peter’s Peacocks.

Gohlke will be able to tell stories about that night from Pittsburgh for years to come with his collegiate career ending like this.

Oakland ended up losing in the Round of 32 in overtime to the N.C. State Wolfpack, 79-73. Gohlke still erupted for 22 points after drilling six three-pointers, but only hit six of 17 for the entire game.
