Newly hired head coach for the LSU Tigers Brian Kelly has made his selection on the next defensive coordinator for the program. On Tuesday, LSU announced that Matt House would be named the defensive coordinator of LSU football.

House is the linebacker coach for the Kansas City Chiefs, and we will commence his duties with the Tigers once the NFL season is over. After announcing the hire, Kelly had this to say on his newly appointed defensive coordinator.

“Matt checks every box we’re looking for in a defensive coordinator,” Kelly said. “He’s led elite SEC defenses, recruited and developed all-conference and All-American performers at multiple positions, and garnered ample experience in both the NFL and as a coordinator at multiple collegiate stops.

”He possesses a great understanding on how to defend the type of offenses we will face each week in our conference, and his ability to put players in position to make plays aligns perfectly with the identity that we want to develop with our defense. I’m excited that he’s joining our staff as we work toward building a championship program at LSU.”

House is currently in his third season with the Kansas City Chiefs as their linebacker coach. This includes both seasons that Kansas City made it to the Super Bowl, winning it all in 2019. He also spent time in the college ranks before as a defensive coordinator with Kentucky, Pittsburgh, and Florida International.

LSU D-lineman headed to Senior Bowl

LSU defensive lineman Neil Farrell Jr has accepted an invite to the Reese’s Senior Bowl, which will take place in the graduate student’s hometown of Mobile, Alabama on Jan. 30, 2021. The 6-foot-4, 325-pound interior threat is a former three-star recruit who spent five seasons with the Tigers.

Over the course of his career, Farrell played in 52 games and recorded 144 tackles. He played a key role on LSU’s national championship team, recording a career-high 46 tackles with three sacks and a forced fumble on the year. The veteran lineman played in 12 games this season with 45 tackles, two sacks and two pass deflections.

Neil Farrell Jr announced last week that he would opt out of the Texas Bowl appearance against Kansas State as he prepares for the Senior Bowl and NFL Draft this spring.

“I Preciate all the love and support, I will not be playing in the bowl game, I’ve decided it’s best that I start my pre-draft process!!,” Farrell said via Twitter on Monday. “Much love to this University And Relationships I’ve built. Forever LSU”
