A day after Lafayette (La.) Lafayette Christian Academy four-star cornerback Ju’Juan Johnson decommitted from Colorado, a new team has emerged as the favorite to land him. That team is the home state LSU Tigers.

Following recent industry updates and expert predictions from The Bengal Tigers‘ Billy Embody and Shea Dixon, the Tigers now have a 59.2% chance to Johnson’s commitment according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Embody put in a pick with a confidence level of 65% while Dixon’s pick is at 70%. On3 National Recruiting Analyst Sam Spiegelman also put in a pick for Johnson to LSU with a confidence level of 70%.

Johnson visited Colorado for the first time on Jan. 28 and committed to the Buffaloes a week later on Feb. 4.

He was back in Boulder over the weekend for Colorado’s spring game and shortly after landing back home in Louisiana, he announced his decommitment from the Buffaloes.

“Everything was great with Colorado, but i just felt like i made my decision too soon and didn’t base it on things that really matter to me,” Johnson told On3. “Colorado is a great place. It was definitely more about my heart and a few other things that confirmed I made a decision too fast.”

LSU was originally a finalist in Johnson’s top schools and the Tigers are likely to be heavily involved again as they try to keep an in-state recruit home.

He’s visited Baton Rouge multiple times and was last on campus on April 14.

“Honestly, I’m giving a few schools a chance to prove I’m the right fit for them and them for me, and I’ll make a decision as soon as identify that,” Johnson told Spiegelman.

LSU recruiting in-state talent hard under Brian Kelly

A commitment from Johnson would just be another win for Brian Kelly an his staff as they continue to put a stamp on homegrown talent.

LSU currently has 13 commitments in its 2024 class. Of those 13, eight are in-state commitments.

Three of the Tigers in-state commitments are ranked as four-star prospects. They are safety Dashawn McBryde (No. 5), linebacker Kolaj Cobbins (No. 6) and linebacker Xavier Atkins (No. 46).

With the 13 commitments they have now, LSU’s class ranks as the No. 12 class in the country and No. 6 in the SEC. The Tigers boasted the No. 5 class in the country and No. 3 in the SEC for the 2023 recruiting cycle.
