Massachusetts softball team ends season on a 56-game win streak

It’s been awhile since the Taunton Tigers (Massachusetts) have lost a high school softball game. Matter of fact, 754 days to be exact and counting.
That’s a couple days after the last time the Tigers lost in the circle, a 1-0 decision to King Philip Regional. All they’ve done for the last five seasons, however is done plenty of winning and capping it with Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) state titles.
This past weekend, Taunton added another state championship to its growing collection and is now currently riding a 56-game winning streak that dates back to May 24th, 2023. The Tigers’ state title win makes it five straight MIAA championships.
The Tigers defeated Wachusett Regional, 10-4, on Saturday for the MIAA’s Division 1 state championship and finished with a perfect 25-0 record. When it compares on a national level, not many teams have had uninterrupted runs like Taunton’s.
One team that was able to boast such a streak was the Melissa Cardinals of the Lone Star State. The Cardinals were riding a 49-game win streak before being upended by Lake Belton, 2-0, in Texas’ UIL Class 5A, Division 1 playoffs.

Another team that saw its longstanding winning streak snapped during the 2025 campaign was La Salle Academy of Rhode Island. The Rams were on a 55-game gallop when they were derailed, and it was by Taunton back in mid-May. La Salle Academy, who ended up winning a Rhode Island state title, had gone 755 days without a loss until the Tigers handed them their first in over two years.
Taunton had defeated La Salle, 7-4, to etch themselves as one of the best softball teams not only regionally, but nationally as well.
Now the Tigers hold one of the longest known winning streaks when it comes to high school softball and will now be on a quest to win six state championships in a row once the 2026 season rolls around.
