Matchups announced for 2024 Big East-Big 12 Battle
The matchups for the 2024 Big East-Big 12 Battle have been revealed, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported on Tuesday. This will be the final season that the event, which began in 2019, is set to take place.
The Big 12 claimed last season’s series against the Big East with an overall record of 7-4. It was the first season that did not end in a tie since the Big East claimed the first battle in 2019 with a record of 8-2.
This season’s Big East-Big 12 Battle will feature several exciting games, including Baylor hitting the road to take on two-time defending national champion UConn. Additionally, Kansas will face Creighton on the road while Marquette is set to travel to Ames for a matchup with Iowa State. It’s notable that none of the Big 12’s four additions — Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah — are included in the schedule.
The matchup Baylor and UConn will be only the second all-time as the Huskies won 96-88 back in 1965. It should provide plenty of hype with the two programs being among some of the top in college basketball in recent seasons.
The Bears are coming off of 24-11 finish that saw them earn a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, their fifth straight appearance. With Baylor having won the national championship in 2021, the two teams have combined for three of the past four titles.
The game between Marquette and Iowa State also provides an interesting storyline as former Texas coach Shaka Smart is the coach of the Golden Eagles. He went 9-4 against the Cyclones during his time in Austin and will hope that history stays on his side as he prepares to meet them again.
All in all, there’s plenty to look forward to looking at this list of matchups. With this set to be the final Big East-Big 12 Battle to take place, the winner will claim all-time bragging rights over the other conference.
