While Miami’s on-field results this fall were less than stellar, the Hurricanes sit comfortably inside the top-10 of the On3 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings head into signing day.

But despite 28 commitments, the ‘Canes aren’t simply resting on their laurels in the final stretch; they have a handful of major targets they’d like to add. Among them is Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas running back Jordan Lyle, a longtime Ohio State commit.

The 6-foot, 190-pounder chose the Buckeyes in April over Miami and Penn State, among others. But he has become one of their most important flip targets in the final weeks before the Early Signing Period.

Lyle will take an official visit to Miami this weekend, as On3’s Chad Simmons reported. And ahead of that trip, the Hurricanes are trending heavily in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Hurricanes have received multiple predictions in their favor

After picks from Miami insiders Stephen Wagner and Gary Ferman, as well as others around the recruiting industry, the RPM gives the Hurricanes a 95.2 percent chance of flipping Lyle.

He told Simmons earlier this week that he was still committed to the Buckeyes, but Miami was making a major late push to flip him.

“I am still locked in with Ohio State, but Miami has been on me hard and I like it when I am down there,” Lyle said. “I am not sure what they have to do to change my mind. The visit is important and I will soak it all in, talk with my family about it and see if Miami can pull a rabbit out of a hat.”

Jordan Lyle Recruiting Profile

Lyle is the No. 156 overall prospect and No. 11 running back in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3’s own rankings, however, are much higher on him. In the latest On300 released last month, Lyle was tabbed as the nation’s No. 40 overall recruit and No. 2 RB.

Charles Power, On3’s Director of Scouting and Rankings, writes this about him as a prospect:

“Refined, efficient running back with a well-rounded, translatable skill set as a rusher. Measured at around 6-feet, 185 pounds prior to his junior season. Looks to have added some mass since that time. A natural runner. Shows high-level lateral agility, vision and contact balance. Reads his blocks well. Shows quick feet in working through the line. Understands angles and sets up second level defenders. Tempos his runs. Bounces off tackles and is hard for linebackers and defenders to bring down. Has an array of moves to force missed tackles.

… Shows solid speed in the open field but is not a blazer when it comes to the top end. Worked in a split backfield for South Florida powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas as a junior. Was very efficient in his carries, rushing for 1,015 yards and 12 touchdowns on just 91 carries (11.2 yards per carry). Will need to continue adding mass to his frame. Does not have quite the workload or raw production of most other blue chip backs entering his senior year as a good chunk of his yardage came in a handful of games.”
