Miami is hosting a laundry list of elite recruiting targets for its massive showdown against Notre Dame Sunday night at Hard Rock Stadium.

The list includes some of the top prospects in the 2026, 2027 and 2028 classes, but one more major surprise visitor has arrived. Rivals’ Chad Simmons has confirmed that five-star EDGE and Oregon commit Anthony Jones is visiting the Hurricanes for the game.

Jones committed to the Ducks last month over Alabama, Texas A&M and dozens of others. The Hurricanes were also among the schools in the mix, receiving an official visit from the weekend of May 30.

He later committed to Oregon in a surprising decision; Alabama was considered the favorite for much of his recruitment. As with any five-star prospect though, teams will continue to pursue him until he signs in December. And the ‘Canes clearly are.

“They showed a lot of hospitality,” Jones told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong this summer after his official visit to Coral Gables. “It was a great experience. I loved it.”

One of their biggest messages to him was the chance to compete for titles and also learn from one of the greatest pass-rushers to ever do it, now-assistant coach Jason Taylor.

“The coaching staff, players, coach JT (Jason Taylor), his knowledge and stuff like that,” he told Wiltfong of what stood out about Miami. “The atmosphere of the campus. I love it. All that plays a big part of why I love it.”

Rivals ranks Jones as the No. 18 overall prospect and No. 5 EDGE in the 2026 class, as well as the No. 1 recruit in the state of Alabama.

He won’t be an easy flip from the Ducks though, as head coach Dan Lanning and defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi have both been deeply embedded in his recruitment.

Their success developing pass-rushers is a major factor as well.

Coach (Tosh) Lupoi and Coach Lanning have a real history of developing edge guys,” Jones told Rivals’ Chad Simmons when he committed. “They are great defensive coaches and they have a lot of experience. They make me feel like part of the team already.”

Anthony Jones Scouting Summary

Rivals’ Scouting and Rankings team writes this about Jones as a prospect:

“Powerful, physical EDGE prospect who wins with brute strength and high effort. Measured in at around 6-foot-2.5, 245 pounds with 33.25-inch arms before his senior season. Initially began his career as a linebacker before growing into an EDGE prospect. A productive defender who plays with his hair on fire. Very powerful. Converts speed to power, showing the ability to walk offensive tackles into the backfield. Has a dangerous long arm. Makes hustle plays, running down defenders in backside pursuit. A strong finisher behind the line of scrimmage. Also sees time on offense as a tight end and short-yardage ball-carrier. State champion in the shot put (58-4.5 feet) and discus (161-5 feet) as a junior. Does not possess some of the overwhelming physical traits or elite athleticism of some of his highly rated peers. A high-floor prospect who should enter college with a level of physical development that could have him primed for an early contribution.”
