Micah Robinson moved up to No. 66 in the recent 2024 On3 150 ranking update. The 6-foot-6 wing at Mouth of Wilson (VA) Oak Hill Academy helped lead his Southern Assault team to the Elite Eight of the Adidas 3SSB Circuit Championships. He averaged 12.3 points and 5.4 rebounds in circuit play.

“I’m playing with a lot of confidence on the ball, my shooting, and my ball handling,” Robinson told On3. “Those are my main two things, really. I feel like when I get the ball now, I am going to make something happen on offense.”

On3 caught up with four-star Micah Robinson to talk about his recruitment and dive into visits.

Robinson sets two official visits

“I went on an official visit to TCU in June,” Robinson said. “I’m going back to TCU in September and Texas Tech.”

TCU: “I got to see the culture up close. Just how the coaches and the players interact and how their who system works. They got like a family over there. I also got to see how they develop players at my position. The main comparison they use for me is Desmond Bane, so they showed me how they developed him from when he got there to when he went to the league. Their plan for me, to help me get to the next level, stood out.”

Texas Tech: “They were the first power five school to offer me back when I was a freshman. They have a whole defensive first philosophy, and they really guard. It’s like the Southern Assault, we take pride in our defense. They do a lot of the same things that I do in my high school and AAU system.”

Teaming up with Nic Codie

Micah Robinson and Nic Codie are travel teammates with the Southern Assault program. They have also officially visited TCU together and have a handful of schools recruiting them both.

“We are in the same room when we travel,” Robinson said. “We talk about college all the time. Our recruitments are separate, but it would be cool if we did go together. TCU, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, LSU, there are a few schools recruiting us both.”

Robinson talks possible future visits

Oklahoma: “They first got on me in April, during the first session. Coach (Porter) Moser called me to say they loved my game and that he thinks they need a player like me who can contribute to the program and get things going. They’ve been pretty consistent with me.”

LSU: “They have a big brand; everyone knows LSU. I like their system, Coach (Matt) McMahon really lets his guys play. They have a lot of freedom. I saw what he did with Ja Morant back and Murray State; their system is fast-paced, and they get going in transition.”

At the end of the day…

“I’ll be looking for an environment where I can thrive,” Robinson said. “Both on the court and off the court, somewhere I can just be me. For me, being comfortable is what really gets me playing well on the court. If I’m good with my teammates and coaches, and we’re all on the same page, that is when I’m at my best. That is the type of home environment I’m looking for.”
