4-star QB Michael Hawkins announces new commitment date
McKinney (Texas) Frisco Emerson four-star quarterback Michael Hawkins originally planned to announce his commitment on Jan. 31 before delaying that decision. Now, he will be revealing his college destination on April 8.
Hawkins is the No. 241 overall prospect and No. 15 quarterback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 42 player in Texas.
“MOMENT OF CLARITY,” Hawkins wrote on Twitter. “I WILL BE ANNOUNCING MY COMMITMENT APRIL 8TH…”
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound signal-caller shared his top eight schools on Dec. 4. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Oklahoma has a commanding lead for Hawkins’ commitment at 92.0%.
Hawkins spent his junior season at Allen (Texas) before transferring to Frisco Emerson this offseason. On3’s Sam Spiegelman watched one of his games this fall and gave him high praise.
“Michael Hawkins gets rid of the ball in a hurry and is a poised decision-maker,” Spiegelman wrote. “I’m high on his ability to extend plays and operate outside the pocket, and is a focal point for opposing defensive coordinator to account for. Hawkins throws with good velocity and is quick to release the ball with a sound throwing motion, but lost some accuracy on intermediate throws.”
The Lone Star State native currently holds 13 offers. In addition to Oklahoma, other programs who have extended them include Alabama, Michigan, Penn State and TCU.
Three schools have hosted the four-star for visits this year. They are Oklahoma (March 4), Arkansas (Jan. 21) and TCU (Jan. 29).
Hawkins has an On3 NIL Valuation of $92K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
