Mikey Lewis jumped up to No. 60 in the recent 2024 On3 150 update. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 18.1 points with the Oakland Soldiers program on Nike’s EYBL Circuit this summer. He is shooting 38.7 percent from three.

“I’m a scorer who can create for others when it is there,” Lewis told On3. “I watch a lot of Dame Lillard. I love his mindset, his toughness. And I love the way he plays the game.”

On3 caught up with Mikey Lewis after a recent live viewing to talk about his recruitment.

Lewis talks recruiting

“I haven’t been on any official visits yet,” Lewis said. “But, I’m planning on setting and taking some real soon. We’re talking with St. Mary’s, LSU, Illinois, Syracuse, and San Diego State.”

LSU: “Coach (Matt) McMahon has been great. They got a really good staff there. Coach McMahon had Ja (Morant) help develop him. And when he had Ja, he let him rock out. I feel like if I were to go there, I would get the opportunity to play on day one. They let me know that if I earn it, they’ll let me come in and play the same game I’m used to, scoring while playing on and off the ball.”

Illinois: “I definitely like their system and how they use their guards. I talk a lot with Coach (Chester) Frazier up there. They let their guys rock if you earn it, and they’ll give their freshmen guards the opportunity to earn playing time. They like that I can score; that’s the making thing. They’ve also said they like how I can create, too.”

San Diego State: “A lot of my guys went there. They’re close to home for me, and they were one of the first schools that were on me. I’ve been in contact with Coach (Chris) Acker a lot, and I’ve been talking to Coach (Brian) Dutcher. I like what they’re saying.”

Syracuse: “I really like Coach (Brendan) Straughn, we have a lot of people in common, and they all really like him, and I trust their word. He knows basketball, and I like that. I also like they’ve stayed in consistent contact with me, even with the coaching change.

St. Mary’s: “They’re really close to home, and they play a guard-friendly style with a lot of ball screens and dribble hand-offs.”

In Lewis’ words

“Distance doesn’t really affect me too much anymore,” Lewis said. “I’ve been away from my parents and family the last two years, so I got used to it. I’m really just trying to find the best fit and best situation for me.

“I’m looking for somewhere I can really grow and develop as a player. A place that will give me the best opportunity to make the NBA. I would like to have the ball in my hands, so I can work on facilitating. But I definitely understand that my strong suit right now is scoring without the ball. But, playing both is important.”
