Texas A&M has recruited the defensive secondary well in the 2023 class, holding commitments from two Top 100 cornerbacks, La Grange (Texas) High’s Bravion Rogers and Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff’s Jayvon Thomas. The momentum continues as St. Louis (Mo.) Cardinal Ritter College safety Marvin Burks Jr. named the Aggies in his new top five.

Missouri, LSU, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss join the Aggies on the list. As of right now, Ole Miss, holds a large lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine at 92.7%. Texas A&M currently sits at 1.7%.

Burks took an official visit to Texas A&M June 17. He also took official visits to Ole Miss and Missouri during June. He has not taken visits to LSU or Oklahoma to this point in his recruitment. Both the Aggies and Rebels made his previous list of top 15 schools. His other three finalists, neither Missouri, LSU nor Oklahoma were in his previous list.

Burks, 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, is the No. 354 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 32 safety and the No. 10 player in Missouri in the 2023 class.

The Industry Comparison shows On3 is significantly higher on Burks than the other major services, though. In the most recent On300 rankings, he was tabbed as the nation’s No. 235 prospect, No. 23 safety and No. 6 player in Missouri.

Burks has yet to set a commitment timeline, but he did give AggieScoop’s Tim Verghese insight earlier this spring into what his commitment will hinge on.

“Everyone’s going to have great fit facilities, but I’m just looking a coaching staff that makes me feel comfortable,” he said. “And then the strength and conditioning coaches, because that’s who I’m going to be with the most. … Playing time early and just somewhere I feel home, an atmosphere where I can thrive at. That’s what’s going to play a big part.”

On defense last fall, Marvin Burks notched 33 tackles and an interception. He snagged 16 catches for 340 yards and three touchdowns on offense.
