Basketball Hall of Fame releases watch list for Jerry West Award

Ten of college basketball’s top shooters have been named to the watch list for the 2022 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award, as announced Tuesday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The Jerry West Award, named after former West Virginia and Los Angeles Lakers standout Jerry West, recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men’s basketball.  A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in November, which has now been narrowed to 10.

Here’s a look at the 10 shooting guards that have been named to the 2022 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award’s watch list.

1.) Bennedict Mathurin, Arizona: Mathurin is averaging 17.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game for Arizona. He shoots 45.7% from the field and has a season high of 30 points.

2.) Adam Flagler, Baylor: Flagler is averaging 12.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game for Baylor. He shoots 43.8% from the field and has a season high of 22 points.

3.) Izaiah Brockington, Iowa State: Brockington is averaging 16.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game for Iowa State. He shoots 48.3% from the field and has a season high of 30 points.

4.) Ochai Agbaji, Kansas: Agbaji is averaging 20.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game for Kansas. He shoots 51.5% from the field and has a season high of 37 points.

5.) TyTy Washington, Kentucky: Washington is averaging 13.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game for Kentucky. He shoots 48.9% from the field and has a season high of 28 points.

6.) Jaden Ivey, Purdue: Ivey is averaging 16.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for Purdue. He shoots 48.5% from the field and has a season high of 27 points.

7.) Buddy Boeheim, Syracuse: Boeheim is averaging 19.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game for Syracuse. He shoots 40.8% from the field and has a season high of 30 points.

8.) Johnny Juzang, UCLA: Juzang is averaging 18.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game for UCLA. He shoots 45.6% from the field and has a season high of 28 points.

9.) Justin Moore, Villanova: Moore is averaging 15.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game for Villanova. He shoots 42.5% from the field and has a season high of 27 points.

10.) Johnny Davis, Wisconsin: Davis is averaging 21.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game for Wisconsin. He shoots 44% from the field and has a season high of 37 points.

The Jerry West Award, which is in its eighth year, will be presented to the winner “on a to be determined date,” according to the Basketball Hall of Fame’s release. Former winners of the award include: Oregon’s Chris Duarte (2021), Seton Hall’s Myles Powell (2020), Duke’s RJ Barrett (2019), Purdue’s Carsen Edwards (2018), Kentucky’s Malik Monk (2017), Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield (2016) and Ohio State’s D’Angelo Russell (2015).
