Connor Stalions on Central Michigan's SIDELINE? Investigation Continues for Jim Harbaugh, Michigan

Connor Stalions likely has plenty of free time nowadays. The former Michigan staffer and man at the center of the ongoing NCAA investigation into Michigan for improper advanced scouting resigned his position on Friday.

And given that Stalions doesn’t have anywhere in particular to be, perhaps he could be in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to take in a game between New Mexico and UNLV. However unlikely that is, the video board crew at University Stadium wanted to make sure Stalions would feel welcome.

“University Stadium Welcome! Connor Stalions (probably)” the video board read at one point in the game.

UNLV, which won the game in convincing fashion, did actually play Michigan earlier this season. The Runnin’ Rebels went to Ann Arbor in Week 2 and lost.

New Mexico was not alone in poking some fun

If you give Steve Spurrier a microphone, it’s safe to assume something entertaining is going to come from him. Nobody in college football loved taking jabs at teams more than to him. Most times, it involved his rivals in the SEC but on Saturday, he decided to produce a hilarious. line about the Michigan sign-stealing scandal.

South Carolina brought a few old teams back to Columbia on Saturday for their game against Jacksonville State. From 2010-2013, Spurrier led the program to great heights and even played in a game everyone will remember. The Outback Bowl against Michigan in 2013, mostly known for the hit Jadeveon Clowney had in the backfield.

Well, Spurrier was talking about the game and had to pop a joke after recent events in Ann Arbor.

“We made sure they weren’t getting our signals,” Spurrier said.

Michigan’s president waded into the fray

In the wake of a sign-stealing investigation that has brought considerable negative press to Michigan, the university’s president has penned a letter to Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti.

In it, university president Santa J. Ono urges the Big Ten to use patience and wait for full facts to come to light via the NCAA investigation.

“We are fully cooperating with the NCAA in its investigation, as it seeks to separate the facts from irresponsible speculation seen in much of the public and social media discourse,” Ono wrote in an e-mail provided by The Wolverine.

“It’s precisely at these times — when all key facts are not known but others are all too comfortable offering strongly held opinion — that it is essential for everyone to ensure that investigations are conducted fairly and that conclusions are based on what actually happened. The reputation and livelihoods of coaches, students, and programs cannot be sacrificed in a rush to judgment, no matter how many and how loudly people protest otherwise. Due process matters.”
