North Carolina QB commit Travis Burgess earns invitation to Elite 11 Finals

Grayson (Ga.) three-star quarterback and recent North Carolina commit Travis Burgess is headed West this summer. On Friday, he earned his invite to the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles set to take place next month.

He’s the eighteenth passer to land an invite to this year’s showcase.

There are few higher honors for prep quarterbacks than being invited to the event, which will celebrate its 26th year in 2025. It bring together 20 of the country’s best quarterbacks for three days, ultimately ending with an MVP and 10 other ‘finalists’ being named.

Elite 11 Finals alumni include Carson Palmer, Andrew Luck, Matthew Stafford, Tim Tebow, and more recently Trevor Lawrence, C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, Dylan Raiola and DJ Lagway. Last year’s Elite 11 Finals featured more than a dozen of the top 20 quarterbacks in the final On3 Industry Rankings, including five of the top six players at the position.

Burgess joins the following invitees in this year’s crop: Tennessee commit Faizon Brandon, Houston commit Keisean Henderson, Texas commit Dia Bell, USC pledge Jonas Williams, Miami verbal Dereon Coleman, Iowa State’s Jett Thomalla, Louisville commit Briggs Cherry, Texas A&M commit Helaman Casuga, Washington pledge Derek Zammit, Arizona State verbal Jake Fette, uncommitted four-star Landon Duckworth, Boise State commit Bryson Beaver, Florida pledge Will Griffin, uncommitted four-star Matt Ponatoski, Duke pledge Terry Walker III, uncommitted four-star Bowe Bentley and Penn State commit Troy Huhn.

Burgess committed to the Tar Heels earlier this month

The 6-foot-5, 195-pounder garnered more than 20 offers, but ultimately came down to North Carolina, NC State and Auburn. The Tar Heels pursued him hard as soon as new head coach Bill Belichick took over. And his visit last month ultimately helped them pull off a big recruiting win by landing him.

“Being able to help transform the team as a QB was important to me,” Burgess told On3’s Steve Wiltfong. “I feel UNC is building something very special for the seasons to come and just want to be part of it … Coach Belichick will turn this program around in the next year or two! And I want to be a part of that legacy and help turn it around! The TB legacy will continue, go Tar Heels.”

Playing against some of the best competition in the country as a junior, Burgess completed 60 percent of his passes for 2,225 yards and 23 touchdowns to just four interceptions. He added another 596 yards rushing and four more scores.
