Two injury updates emerged during Sunday’s news conference with Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman and coordinators Mike Denbrock and Chris Ash

Freeman provided details on sixth-year defensive end Jordan Botelho’s recovery progress, while Denbrock revealed redshirt junior tight end Ty Washington has been limited during practice.

“So, Botelho’s progressing back,” Freeman said of Botelho, who suffered a pectoral injury in June. “He’s been out and practicing a little bit more, and we’ll see when he’s cleared. But he’s itching to get back here as soon as we can.”

The initial recovery timeline for Botehlo was four months after he sustained a pectoral injury in July. During Friday’s practice, open to the media, reporters observed Botelho going through drills that required his upper body. He’s also 11 months removed from a season-ending knee injury.

Washington, on the other hand, has been dealing with a wrist injury.

“Unfortunately, he’s had a little bit of a wrist issue going on that he’s been dealing with,” Denbrock said. “He’s been a little sore with that, so he’s got a big ol’ wrap on it. We’ll get him healed up, and he’s done some good things, both in the run and pass game.”

Notre Dame has lost two players to season-ending injuries during fall camp. Redshirt freshman Kedren Young had an ACL injury, and sixth-year tight end Kevin Bauman had an articular cartilage injury that prompted him to retire from football.

Notre Dame Quote of the Weekend

“I don’t know what the fans talk about. We have three freshmen that are doing a good job at corner with Dallas (Golden), Mark (Zackery IV) and Cree (Thomas). I think they’re doing an excellent job. Ty Washington at tight end. I could go on. I could really list a lot of people that our fans don’t know, that I expect to do a good job for us this season.”
