Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville four-star offensive lineman Jac’Qawn McRoy is one of the pillars of Oregon’s top-10 class in the On3 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings.

But that hasn’t stopped other teams from pursuing him, and apparently he isn’t closing the door either.

Over the weekend, the 6-foot-8, 340-pounder took an official visit to Colorado to meet with Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes.

McRoy committed to the Ducks in early July over offers from Kentucky, Auburn, Arkansas, and a number of other SEC programs. He did so even after his lead recruiter, Adrian Klemm, left for the NFL and was replaced by new offensive line coach A’Lique Terry. He and Terry, however, quickly built a relationship that has turned them into what feels like brothers.

“He is a younger guy, so we relate to each other and he is just cool,” McRoy said. “I see him differently from how I see other coaches. We can talk about anything and he is like a big brother. He is older than me, he is an adult and I respect him as a coach, but our relationship is different. I can’t wait to play for him.”

Ducks will have to hold off a late push for McRoy

Oregon’s young staff in general was a draw for McRoy, including head coach Dan Lanning, who made him a personal priority as well.

“He recruited me hard, and he made me feel important,” he said. “Coach Lanning told me I can come in and make a difference in the program. I love Coach Lanning and his younger staff. It’s just different.”

McRoy’s trip to Boulder was his first known visit as a recruit, and the Buffaloes are looking to upgrade their offensive line room in a big way.

Sanders and Co. have already seen multiple offensive linemen announce plans to enter the transfer portal, and they only have two offensive linemen committed in the 2024 class — both from the junior college ranks.

The massive McRoy could be a candidate to fill that hole. He ranks as the nation’s No. 184 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. McRoy also checks in as the nation’s No. 16 offensive tackle and the No. 10 recruit in Alabama.
