Oregon State linebacker John Miller intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he announced via Instagram on Tuesday. Miller will be entering his fifth season of college football as a redshirt junior, looking to play out his final two years of eligibility elsewhere.

“I want to start by thanking God for giving me the ability to play the game I love,” Miller said in a statement.

“I want to thank Oregon State University giving me memories and friendships that will last a lifetime over the past 4 years.

“To Beaver Nation, I thank you for being the best fans in the country and always supporting your Beavs.

“To the coaches, I appreciate you taking a chance on a home grown kid, making one of my biggest dreams come true.

“To all my teammates of the last 4 years, thank you for making every moment of my journey special. I know I will have you all as brothers for life, and that’s something no one can take away.

“I have come a long way from where I started, and after thoughtful consideration with my family, I have decided to enter the transfer portal. Looking back, I can confidently say I have grown as a player and person as a product of the OSU environment.

“Best of luck to my Beaver family. Thank you for everything.”

More on John Miller, career at Oregon State

Miller played in just five games this season, one of which was the Sun Bowl against Notre Dame. He was able to take a redshirt and will now be able to play college football for two more seasons. So, whichever program winds up landing the linebacker will have him for multiple years.

In those five games, Miller recorded 11 tackles — not recording any other stats. It was his best statistical season despite not appearing too much on the field. Miller has 30 career appearances.

Miller played high school football at Tualatin (OR) High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 761 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

During his high school recruitment, the Beavers was the only offer he publicly reported. His hometown of Tualatin was just over an hour away from the Oregon State campus in Corvallis, likely making the decision to transfer a tough one.
