The book on the high school regular season has closed, and top recruits around the country are marching their teams through the postseason. All 17 quarterbacks ranked in the updated 2024 On300 have made their college decisions.

The 2024 cycle features two quarterback prospects — Julian Sayin and DJ Lagway — rated as five-stars in the 2024 On300, while the nine highest-rated recruits at the position rank inside the top 150.

Let’s assess the top quarterback prospects in the senior class:

1. Julian Sayin — Alabama commit

Julian Sayin
Julian Sayin participates in photo shoot in Tuscaloosa.

School: Carlsbad (Calif.)
On3 Ranking: No. 7
Scouting Summary: Julian Sayin is the most refined and accurate passer in the 2024 cycle. Measured in at over 6-foot-1, 195 pounds with a 9.25-inch hand prior to his senior season. Touts one of the quickest releases in the cycle with a tight, compact throwing motion. Has outstanding overall mechanics. Consistently throws in rhythm, marrying his eyes, upper body and feet. Generates good zip on short and intermediate passes. The ball gets out quick. Layers his passes with ease, delivering with advanced touch. Hits receivers in stride. A good deep ball thrower. Comfortable passer on the run with the ability to deliver from off-platform. Navigates the pocket with ease and with intention.

Plays on his toes and has quick, reactive feet. A surgical passer on Friday nights. Decisive passer who reads the field quickly and efficiently. Turned in an efficient junior season, completing 66.5% of his passes for 2,708 yards (11.1 yards per attempt) and 27 touchdowns against 4 interceptions. Also rushed for 154 yards and three scores. A standout in neutral settings, as he was named the On3 MVP at the Elite 11 Finals and OT7 Finals prior to his senior season. Does not possess the eye-popping physical traits of some of his highly-touted peers. Can continue building on his improvisational skills and overall creativity as he often wins from within structure. Considered a very safe quarterback prospect with a high floor at the next level.”

2. DJ Lagway — Florida commit

DJ Lagway Florida football

School: Willis (Texas)
On3 Ranking: No. 15
Scouting Summary: DJ Lagway is a thickly-built quarterback prospect with one of the better combinations of arm talent and athleticism in the 2024 cycle. Has measured at around 6-foot-2.5, 230 pounds with a 9.5-inch hand. Tests as a good athlete in the combine setting. Flashes palpable arm strength, with the ability to make throws to every level of the field. The ball pops out of his hand. Hits far hash throws with relative ease. Arm talent shines when forced to throw from multiple arm slots or off-platform. Makes some very impressive reactive plays. Efficient with his movements in the pocket and comfortable working outside the pocket. Owns some of the best mobility among top 2024 quarterbacks. Has quick feet and is able to extend plays and pick up yards on the ground.

Ripped off a number of big gains on scrambles as a junior. His size and athleticism also provide the makings of a dangerous between-the-tackles threat on designed quarterback runs. Productive in a smaller sample as a junior, passing for 2,081 yards at 10.4 yards per attempt for 24 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Rushed for 517 yards and 7 scores on 50 carries. Shows some outstanding flashes, but needs to be more consistent on a throw-to-throw and week-to-week basis. Accuracy and performance can waver at times, with a wider than-desired variance from game to game. Has yet to lead his team to a winning record entering his senior season. A touted two-sport athlete who has also received multiple offers as a baseball player.”

3. Luke Kromenhoek — Florida State commit

Luke Kromenhoek

School: Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military School
On3 Ranking: No. 30
Scouting Summary: Luke Kromenhoek is a toolsy, strong-armed passer with some of the best physical attributes among quarterbacks in the 2024 cycle. One of the taller quarterbacks in the group with a prototypical build at 6-foot-3.5, 190 pounds with a 9.5-inch hand. Shows a very live arm on Friday nights and in the camp setting. Backed that up in the camp setting, where he showed one of the strongest arms at the Elite 11 Finals. Flashes a quick, natural release, generating considerable velocity with ease. Rips throws down the middle of the field on a line. Had several passes travel over 50 yards in the air as a junior. Can stretch secondaries with his arm strength. Delivers some nice passes on the on rollouts to his right and left. A good athlete at the position.

“Shows very encouraging reactive quickness and burst as a mover in evading the pass rush. Has upside as a runner with his quickness and speed and can pick up chunks of yards once at the second level. Unlike most other top 2024 quarterbacks, was a first-year starter as a junior, leading his team to a state title. Completed 65 percent of his passes for 2,576 yards and 24 touchdowns against 3 interceptions, while rushing for 453 yards and 7 scores. Played wide receiver and safety while backing up Auburn signee Holden Geriner as a sophomore. Can stand to improve his overall consistency and will likely see the game continue to slow down for him with more in-game reps. Older for the class, turning 19 years-old in January of his senior year. Has one of the higher upsides in the murky 2024 quarterback class.”

4. Dylan Raiola — Georgia commit

Dylan Raiola
(Jake Rowe/DawgsHQ)

School: Buford (Ga.)
On3 Ranking: No. 34
Scouting Summary: Dylan Raiola is an advanced arm talent with the ability to make a wide variety of high-level throws as a high school signal-caller. Was identified as a top arm talent and quarterback in the 2024 cycle early on in his high school career. Physically developed at around 6-foot-3, 220 pounds with a 9.75-inch hand. Has continued to add mass later on in his high school career. Owns a natural, loose throwing motion with arm dexterity to deliver off-platform and from multiple arm slots. Showed a deep catalog of throws as a sophomore. Easily drives the ball to all levels of the field. Showed off one of the cycle’s best deep balls at the Elite 11 Finals. Played both under center and in the shotgun as a junior. Ahead of the curve as a ball-handler and in the quick passing game.

Shows good footwork and awareness in the pocket. Capable of creative plays in the face of pressure. Completed 64% of his passes for 2,287 yards (8.7 yards per attempt) and 21 touchdowns against 5 interceptions as a junior. Primarily a pass-first quarterback as a junior, not running for many yards and finishing with -92 yards rushing – an anomaly for a top quarterback prospect. Will need to show more mobility and playmaking ability and up his overall play as a senior. Can let his throws hang at times. Transferred to his fourth high school prior to his senior season. The son of 14-year NFL center Dominic Raiola. Also a standout baseball player as a pitcher and catcher early in his high school career.”

5. Air Noland — Ohio State commit

School: Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes
On3 Ranking: No. 75
Scouting Summary: Air Noland is an instinctual, accurate southpaw passer who shredded opposing defenses through the air as a junior. Was the most productive passer among top 2024 quarterbacks. Measured in at around 6-foot-2, 185 pounds with a 9-inch hand in the spring prior to his senior season. Has a streamlined frame with thinner shoulders. Had a monster junior season, completing 73.1% of his passes for 4,095 yards (12.7 yards per attempt) for 55 touchdowns against four interceptions. Led Langston Hughes to a state title in a high classification and helmed an offense that set the state record for most points scored. Shows high-end field vision with the ability to go through his reads and find open receivers. At his best as a reliable distributor to talented skill players.

Throws with timing and touch. Accurate to all levels and shows the ability to layer the football and locate throws into small windows. Arm strength is solid, but may not be on the level of some of his highly-ranked peers. Plays with an advanced feel and shows a nice internal clock against the pass rush. A pass-first quarterback but has some creativity and mobility when needed. One of the safest bets among quarterbacks in the 2024 cycle given his on-field success and production relative to his peers.”

6. Tyler Cherry — Duke commit

tyler-cherry
Tyler Cherry/Instagram

School: Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove
On3 Ranking: No. 104
Scouting Summary: Tyler Cherry is a tall, big-framed quarterback with a big arm and considerable developmental upside given his physical tools and room for growth as a player. Checks in between 6-foot-4 and 6-foot-5 and around 210 pounds. Has a big frame and is relatively thin at his weight. Looks to have plenty of room to fill out. A first-year starter as a junior at one of Indiana’s top high school programs. Played behind former 4-star Tayven Jackson. Touts a big, live arm. The football noticeably jumps out of his hand. Drives the ball downfield without strain. Looks to be among the better downfield passers in the 2024 cycle. Makes high-level, small window throws over the middle of the field. Loose and fluid mechanically. A bouncy mover in the pocket. Shows encouraging reactive quickness in dealing with the pass rush. Sidesteps rushers, resets and fires.

Plays with an air of decisiveness that belies his lack of varsity experience. Capable of picking up yards when the play breaks down. Stands in the pocket and is willing to take big hits unlike some of his highly-touted peers. Plays in a projectable scheme where he works from under center and off of play action. Led Center Grove to a state title in his first year as a starter. Completed 65% of his passes for 2,269 yard and 22 touchdowns against five interceptions, passing for an efficient 10.6 yards per attempt. Plays in a run-heavy offense that does not always put the ball in his hands in big situations. Will need to continue honing his overall consistency and field vision, which could come with more in-game reps. Physical tools and room for improvement point to a high, translatable upside with further development.”

7. Ethan Grunkemeyer — Penn State commit

Ohio quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer and Penn State head coach James Franklin.

School: Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy
On3 Ranking: No. 107
Scouting Take: Ethan Grunkemeyer finished as On3’s No. 3 Top Performer at the Elite 11 Finals. He was perhaps the most pleasant surprise at the Elite 11 Finals. The Penn State pledge flashed arguably the most explosive arm action at the event. From early on in Day 1, the ball jumped out of Grunkemeyer’s hand. He easily drove the ball downfield on a line – as well as anyone. The Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy product was the On3 MVP on Day 1 with a very impressive day in drill work. He backed that up with a strong showing during his pro day, flashing loose, coordinated movements to go with his plus arm. Grunkemeyer had an up-and-down 7-on-7 session on Day 3 but still made a number of high-level throws. He showed he could go throw for throw alongside the best quarterback prospects in the cycle.”

8. Miles O’Neill — Texas A&M commit

School: Marblehead (Mass.) Hun
On3 Ranking: No. 114
Scouting Summary: Miles O’Neill is a big-framed quarterback who touts arguably the strongest arm in the 2024 cycle. Measured in at around 6-foot-4.5, 220 pounds prior to his senior season. Has massive hands that measure at 10 ⅜ inches, registering among the largest at the position in 2024. Flashes easy downfield arm strength. Drives the ball vertically without strain. Rips throws from the far hash to the boundary with palpable velocity. Has a pliable arm with considerable layback in his throwing motion. Shows strong natural accuracy with the ability to layer his throws and change speeds. Sticks the ball on covered receivers. Looks to be a sound decision-maker in the game setting. Completed 72.3% of his passes for 28 touchdowns as a junior.

Plays with a wide base and coordinated footwork. Slides around the pocket, strafing to avoid pressure. Tough for defenders to bring down with arm tackles due to his size. Has solid mobility, especially for a bigger quarterback. Used on designed runs and can pick up yards on broken plays. Picked up 350 yards on the ground as a junior. Also has a basketball background. At his best as a downfield, vertical passer. Has longer arms and can be inconsistent in the quick game and going side to side. Needs to continue adding overall polish and consistency with experience. Did not face top competition as a junior and transferred to The Hun School in New Jersey for his senior season. Will need to continue developing, but the pure physical upside is among the best at the position in the cycle.”

9. Ryan Puglisi — Georgia commit

Ryan Puglisi - Georgia

School: Avon (Conn.) Old Farms
On3 Ranking: No. 116
Scouting Summary: Ryan Puglisi is a live-armed signal caller who throws with some of the best velocity in the 2024 cycle. Measured at around 6-foot-2.5, 200 pounds with a 9.25-inch hand prior to his senior season. Has a thick, powerful base which he uses to generate power. Can drive the football to multiple levels with ease. Shows the ability to step up in the pocket and rip throws to the far boundary. Capable of layering touch passes in the red zone. A solid functional mover with reactive movements. Has a baseball background with a fastball that reportedly exceeds 90 miles per hour. Can improve his overall consistency in game settings and reaction to pressure. Plays a brief eight-game season against varying levels of competition at a boarding school in Connecticut. Will enter college with fewer live game reps and passing attempts than many of his blue-chip peers. Registers as an average athlete in the combine setting.”

10. Dermaricus Davis — Washington commit

Dermaricus Davis

School: Upland (Calif.) Etiwanda
On3 Ranking: No. 152
Scouting Take: Dermaricus Davis has shown continued improvement in his second year as the starter at Etiwanda (Calif.) High. The 6-foot-4.5, 190-pounder has been very accurate thus far, showing good ball placement and feel in working over the middle of the field. He’s a smooth thrower and able to consistently replicate his throwing motion. Davis also has plus rushing ability, showing the ability to pick up chunk gains with his legs. The Washington commit has the look of an improving and ascending prospect early on as a senior.”

11. Hauss Hejny — TCU commit

hauss-hejny
QB Hauss Hejny (Sam Spiegelman, On3)

School: Fort Worth (Texas) Aledo
On3 Ranking: No. 191
Scouting Summary: Hauss Hejny is a dynamic dual-threat who pairs the best speed of any top quarterback in the 2024 cycle along with a polished passing skill set. Smaller in stature than most of his blue-chip peers, measuring at around 5-foot-11, 185 pounds prior to his senior season. Has elite speed for the position, running the 100 meters in the 10.9-second range as a junior. Also ripped off a sensational 4.46-second 40-yard dash at the Elite 11 regional. A twitched-up, explosive athlete on Friday nights. Moves like he’s in fast-forward. A dynamic run threat, who changes the math for defenses with his ability to take any carry to the house. Dangers as a designed runner and outpaces defensive backs in the open field. Flashes a good arm with the ability to drive throws out to the boundary and over the middle of the field. Effective in running a modern spread offense with his ability to stress defenses in multiple ways. Showed encouraging progress as a passer on the camp circuit prior to his senior season. Generates good velocity on his passes with a quick throwing motion and core torque.

Turned in a strong junior season, leading Aledo to a Texas 5A-D1 state title in his first year as a starter. Completed 62.% of his passes for 2,094 yards and 20 touchdowns against 7 interceptions at 11.2 yards per attempt. Also rushed for 1,276 yards and 15 touchdowns at over 10 yards per carry. Did not have the pure passing output or attempts as many blue-chip quarterbacks. Has a smaller frame and hands, which regularly measure under 9 inches, which may limit his long-term upside. Has strong athletic genes with both parents being scholarship athletes (father-football, mother- basketball) at TCU.”

12. Walker White — Auburn commit

School: Little Rock (Ark.) Christian Academy
On3 Ranking: No. 198
Scouting Summary: Walker White is a physically developed quarterback with prototypical size, a strong arm and ability as a power runner. Has a muscled, filled-out build as one of the more developed quarterback prospects in the 2024 cycle. Measured at over 6-foot-3 and around 220 pounds prior to his junior season. Hand size has measured between 9.75 and 10 inches. Flashes a strong arm. Has the ability to make high-level throws when everything is on time and in rhythm. Plays with good reactive quickness and has the functional mobility to escape the pass rush. A tough, physical runner who brings a power run element, particularly in short-yardage and goal-line situations.

Completed 53.2% of his passes for 1,975 yards and 25 touchdowns against 9 interceptions as a junior. Rushed for 837 yards and 16 touchdowns on 102 carries. Not as efficient as most of his blue-chip peers as a passer in part due to accuracy and decision-making. Has the physical tools to be among the best in the cycle, but needs to develop his feel and confidence as a player to tap into that upside. A tad older for the cycle, turning 18 years old in May of his junior year.”

13. Will Hammond — Texas Tech commit

will-hammond-texas-tech
4-star QB Will Hammond (Sam Spiegelman, On3)

School: Hutto (Texas)
On3 Ranking: No. 202
Scouting Take: Will Hammond looks to be an ideal fit in Texas Tech’s Air Raid scheme under offensive coordinator Zach Kittley. The Hutto (Texas ) High product showed very good feel and timing as a passer. He was at his best in targeting the short and intermediate areas of the field. After watching Hammond pick apart the defense on short, timing routes in 7-on-7, it’s not hard to see him doing the same in the Red Raiders offense while playing in the Big 12. In addition to the accurate passing skills. also brings good athleticism and rushing ability to the table.”

14. Cutter Boley — Kentucky commit

Cutter Boley wears a Kentucky football uniform during a recruiting visit
Jacob Noger | UK Athletics

School: Hodgenville (Ky.) Lexington Christian Academy
On3 Ranking: No. 206
Scouting Summary: Cutter Boley is a strong-armed pocket passer with prototypical size. Measures in at 6-foot-5 and over 200 pounds. Owns a big frame with a hand size that measures around 10.25 inches. Has notable arm talent. The football comes out of his hand as cleanly as any top quarterback in the cycle. Capable of standing in the pocket and driving the ball downfield and out to the boundary with ease. Shows the ability to layer and locate his throws. Looks to be very comfortable in working off of play action. Should see a seamless fit in running pro-style offenses.

Projects as a pocket passer but does show some satisfactory movement skills with the ability to move within the pocket and pick up some yards when things break down. Completed 63.5% of his passes for 3,901 yards and 36 touchdowns against 15 interceptions while leading Lexington Christian to the state semifinals in 2022. Will need to cut down on interceptions and improve his overall efficiency as he continues to develop, but has notable upside as a passer with his arm and size.”

15. CJ Carr — Notre Dame commit

CJ Carr notre dame
2024 quarterback CJ Carr (Chad Weaver/Blue & Gold)

School: Saline (Mich.)
On3 Ranking: No. 208
Scouting Summary: CJ Carr is a polished quarterback with a technically developed skill set. Measured at around 6-foot-2.5, 195 pounds prior to his senior season. Hand size has measured between 9.25 and 9.5 inches. Registers as average athlete with good quickness, running a 4.94-second 40-yard dash, 4.26-second shuttle and jumping 26.7 inches in the vertical at the Elite 11 regional. Has a quick, easy release that is easily replicated. Consistently spins the ball well, throwing a tight spiral. Shows the ability to layer the ball and throw with touch. Flashes functional movement skills and reactive quickness in the pocket. Capable of making off-script plays at times.

Looks most comfortable in neutral, on-air settings at this stage. Completed 68.1% of his passes for 2,685 yards and 26 touchdowns against 5 interceptions. Plays in a high school offense that features a high percentage of short, quick passes. Can increase decisiveness as a player on Friday nights as his arm strength tends to show up more in neutral settings. Showed some signs of improvement late in his junior season but can improve his efficiency as a passer with his 8.2 yards per attempt being on the low end among 2024 blue-chip quarterbacks.”

16. Jadyn Davis — Michigan commit

Jadyn Davis

School: Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School
On3 Ranking: No. 216
Scouting Summary: Jadyn Davis is a developed, polished passer who is most comfortable as an in-structure distributor. Measured at around 6-foot-0.5, 195 pounds with a 9.25-inch hand prior to his senior season. Is relatively filled out with a developed lower body. Was touted as a top quarterback prospect very early in the recruiting process, earning offers in middle school. Turned in a strong junior season, leading a high-powered Providence Day offense to a state title in North Carolina’s private school league. Completed 72.5% of his passes for 3,425 yards (11.2 yards per attempt) and 43 touchdowns against six interceptions.

Effectively distributed the ball to a group of skill players that included several Power 5 prospects. Makes good decisions and looks to have a good grip of the offense. Has solid arm strength when delivering from within the pocket. Polished and refined as a ball handler and when working off of play action. Much more of an in-structure quarterback. Moves well within the pocket but does not make too many plays with his legs. Has a naturally longer release which limits his ability to consistently deliver from off-platform. Increasing his ability to make individual plays would raise his floor as a prospect given physical limitations relative to other blue-chip quarterback prospects.”

17. Jake Merklinger — Tennessee commit

Jake-merklinger

School: Savannah (Ga.) Calvary Day School
On3 Ranking: No. 220
Scouting Summary: Jake Merklinger is an accurate, functionally mobile passer with a strong feel for the game. Measured at around 6-foot-3, 195 pounds prior to his senior season. Shows the ability to quickly react and escape from pass rushers. Functional mobility both in and out of the pocket is among the best among top 2024 quarterbacks at this juncture.

Throws with timing and touch. Sees the field well. Can pick up chunks of yards with his legs on designed runs and scrambles. Completed 67% of his passes for 1,987 yards and 32 touchdowns against 2 interceptions as a junior. Does not pass as much as many of his blue-chip peers but is very efficient, with a stellar 13.7 yards per attempt. Does not appear to be as naturally gifted as a pure passer as some other top quarterback prospects relative to arm strength and throwing mechanics. Also plays basketball for his high school.”
