West Virginia plans to release a depth chart at some point this week, according to head coach Rich Rodriguez, but don’t expect a lot of clarity from it.

That’s because it should be filled with the word “or,” across the various positions on the roster.

“There’s going to be a lot of -or-s,” he said on his weekly radio show.

Rodriguez said that some positions could be two players, but it could include multiple “-or-s” at some spots on the roster as the Mountaineers have worked their way through fall camp toward the season.

“I hope that’s a good thing because there’s more depth,” he said.

Rodriguez made it clear multiple times in fall camp that he would like to play more people than any team in the country, but the players have to prove that they’re good enough to win with on the field.

The goal for any player is to be on the field, and the veteran head coach is a believer that if there are three guys at one position that are good enough to win with, then they’ll play all three.

That spills over into the decisions that Rodriguez makes at spots on special teams, where players earn starting roles there instead of offense or defense, because it gets players more involved.

And Rodriguez isn’t shy to have the number of players be as big as those who earn it can make it.
