Nick Saban RETIRES | Alabama Head Coach calls it a career | What is next for Crimson Tide?

Five-star wide receiver Ryan Williams of Saraland (Ala.) tells On3 that he has decommitted from Alabama. The move comes on the heels of news breaking that Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban was retiring.

The Yellowhammer State wideout had been committed to the Crimson Tide since October 2022. Williams sent a statement to On3:

“First off I would like to thank God,  my family, and anyone else who has helped me make it to this point… but with careful consideration with my family I will be decommitting from the University of Alabama … respect my decision.”

Williams reclassified from the 2025 to the 2024 recruiting class in December, just before the Early Signing Period began. He opted to not sign with the Crimson Tide during the early window, and take his recruitment to the traditional National Signing Day on February 7.

In the meantime, Williams set three official visits at Alabama on January 20, Texas on January 27 and Auburn on February 3. BamaOnline reported Friday that a visit to Texas A&M was also possible for Williams.

Williams ranks as the No. 12 player according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 4 wide receiver and the No. 2 player in the state of Alabama.

Scouting Summary

On3’s Ranking and Scouting Team writes about him as a prospect:

“The most productive and athletic wide receiver in high school football as a sophomore. Turned in an utterly dominant season in 2022. Measured around 6-foot, 160 pounds in the spring following his sophomore season. One of the fastest wideouts in the nation, regardless of class. Posted a scintillating 10.49 second 100-meter time early on in his sophomore track season. A legitimate state title contender in four track events – the 100, 200, 400 meters and high jump. Shows the ability to harness his elite speed on the football field. A big-time deep threat who easily runs past defensive backs. Has high-end change of direction and breaks off cornerbacks with agility within his routes. Caught 88 passes for 1,641 yards and 24 touchdowns, ran for 700 yards and 15 touchdowns on 57 rushes (12.3 yards per carry), returned two punts for touchdowns and passed for a score while leading his high school to a state title as a sophomore. Was named Alabama’s Gatorade Player of the Year following the historic season. Was the On3 MVP at Under Armour’s Atlanta camp prior to his junior season. Looks like one of the top pass-catchers in high school football regardless of class and is the top wide receiver prospect from Alabama since Henry Ruggs III. Will need to continue adding strength and mass to his slender frame.”

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $378K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
