We are but a few hours away from the Monday of the first game week for the vast majority of football programs across the country. As we await all week for those matchups to hit our television screens on Saturday, the fans in the Carolinas now know who will be announcing the primetime matchup between the Tar Heels and Gamecocks.

Per Steve Fink, South Carolina’s associate athletic director, the announcing tandem of Sean McDonough and Greg McElroy will call the game between North Carolina and South Carolina. Meanwhile, Molly McGrath will work the sidelines for the broadcast inside Bank of America Stadium.

That’s a quality team calling the main course that will be this major matchup between state-line rivals. That’s especially so after the appetizer that will be College GameDay as they’ll be in Charlotte for their first stop of the season to watch the Tar Heels and Gamecocks get after it.

Beamer details what it will take for South Carolina to beat UNC

South Carolina should have an idea of just how good they will be this season following their opener against North Carolina on Saturday. Shane Beamer‘s club will get a tough test in week one when facing a ranked UNC squad that played in the ACC Championship a season ago.

Beamer joined WCCP on Thursday and was asked what it would take for South Carolina to win The Battle of the Carolinas. It’s no surprise that Beamer started by mentioning trying to slow down the Tar Heel’s star quarterback in Drake Maye.

“Well, for them it all starts with their quarterback,” Beamer said. “We know what a great player he is, and rightfully so. He’s fantastic. We can’t let him just get in there and take over the game, and that’s our offense, defense, special teams. We all have to do our part, because he’s a special player.”

Beamer warned of the other talented players that the Tar Heels have too. The Gamecocks will also have to stop the run to have a chance to come out on top.

“They also, they’ve got really talented running backs,” Beamer said. “We tried to recruit two or three of them here at South Carolina. We weren’t able to get them…But they’ve got really good running backs. And we’ve got to corral those guys, also. In first games, there’s just so many unknowns, because it’s the first time doing it for real. And there’s a lot of new players on both teams. So I think the biggest thing is the team that handles the environment best? and just plays smart, clean football, as well? (They’re) going to have a heck of a chance to win this game at the end.”
