Seton Hall has landed commitments from brothers Dre Davis, a transfer from Louisville, and Tae Davis, a three-star high school senior, they told On3.

The elder Davis — Dre, a 6-foot-5 guard — averaged 7.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 0.8 assists last season as a sophomore at Louisville.

His brother, Tae, was originally committed to Louisville before decommitting after Kenny Payne was hired to replace Chris Mack as head coach. Tae is ranked as the No. 145 overall prospect in the 2022 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Tae, a member of the 2022 class, is a 6-foot-6 small forward out of Indianapolis Warren Central. He also received offers from Penn State, Utah, Butler, and others.

The Davis brothers break down their decision

The brothers’ decision was one that was made jointly. Both Tae and Dre shared a “gut feeling” that Seton Hall was their future home.

“Seton Hall has the right coaching staff and the right system,” Tae explained to On3. “I had the gut feeling and knew this was the place for me to be. It all made sense for me. Coach Shaheen (Holloway) is a winner and his coaching staff are winners. I don’t see who wouldn’t want to play for them. When it came down to it, I told myself this is the coaching staff I want to play for.”

“My heart was led to play for Coach Sha,” Dre said. “It was a gut feeling. Every encounter with him and his staff was personal and intentional. Coach Sha and I have a lot in common, his energy, passion, and love for the game. I will be surrounded by a culture of competitive winners. I believe that they will match my drive and push me to be a better player and person on and off the court.”

Seton Hall hires Shaheen Holloway after historic run in NCAA tournament

Earlier this month, Seton Hall hired Shaheen Holloway as its next head basketball coach, after leading Saint Peters to a history-making Elite Eight run. The magical Cinderalla story concluded with wins over No. 2 seed Kentucky, No. 7 seed Murray State, and No. 3 seed Purdue. Before that, he led the Peacocks to the MAAC conference tournament title in three straight seasons with double-digit wins in conference play.

Holloway played his college basketball at Seton Hall, where he graduated in 2000. He then declared for the NBA draft where he went undrafted, before playing professionally overseas for eight years.

When former head coach Kevin Willard was hired in 2010, Holloway was an assistant coach on his staff for eight seasons. Saint Peter’s came calling and a few years later, Holloway is making the historic run in the NCAA Tournament. Now, he will be returning home to be the head coach of his alma mater.

Willard recently left the Pirates, opting to take the Maryland Terrapins job. Consistent as any coach inside of the Big East, Willard went to five tournaments during his time in South Orange. Holloway will be looking to continue on the tradition of appearing in the big dance.
