Much of the south kicked off the 2021 season with kick-off classics around the south and On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons was out seeing top talent. He took in two games in Florida and four in Georgia between Thursday and Saturday.

Many big names stood out and five stood out about the rest.

Top 100 junior Jalen Brown opens the season with a bang

Jalen Brown had a big part in Miami Gulliver Prep’s big win over Miami Killian Thursday. Brown finished with 186-yards on 8 receptions and he scored 3 touchdowns. He showed why On3 has him ranked No. 21 in the country. Brown creates separation off the line of scrimmage, he had great ball skills and he showed why he is being pursued by many top programs. Schools like Florida State, Miami, Michigan and Penn State are a few with early buzz around them.

Clemson commit Jihaad Campbell made plays everywhere

Clemson fans have a lot to look forward to with EDGE Jihaad Campbell. He is an EDGE, and that is likely where he play for the Tigers, but he could easily be labeled as an athlete. He has a great frame, he is a natural athlete, and that showed in game one. Campbell made plays in the backfield when coming off the edge, but also showed fluidity when playing in space as a linebacker. He has the frame to add weight and it only going to get better.

2024 Stacy Gage bursts onto the scene with 150 yards, 2 touchdowns

Stacy Gage is only a sophomore, but he did not look like one Friday night. The 2024 running back rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener. What would have been a third touchdown was called back. He was extremely impressive and is on track to be one of the top running backs in the 2024 class. LSU offered after his performance. Auburn, Georgia, Miami and others offered earlier this summer.

Missouri commit Sam Horn opens season with 400 yards

Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill played into the early morning of Sunday August 22, but they left the Mercedes Benz smiling after a big win in the Corky Kell Classic. Missouri commit Sam Horn was a big part of the 36-10 win by completing 31-44 passes for 402 yards and three touchdowns. He would like a few throws back because he did throw two interceptions, but overall, Horn was very impressive.

5-star ATH Travis Hunter, a FSU commit, puts on a show in game 1

It is was the season open for Travis Hunter, the No. 3 player in the 2022 On300, and he again, made a case to be the top player in the country. The Florida State commit played a big role in Collins Hill’s win on both sides of the ball. On offense, Hunter had 232-yards receiving on 12 receptions and two touchdowns. He added an interception, a pass break-up and a couple of tackles on defense. There is not a more complete player in the country than Hunter.
