Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens has been hunting for a spot in the NFL but the 49-year-old is having little luck so far this season. Owens’ agent confirmed this week that the five-time All-Pro even called Jerry Jones to discuss a potential reunion.

“We’ve been in constant communication with Jerry Jones’ office over the last few days about the possibility of him returning to the Cowboys,” Owens’ agent Gregory D.L. Daniel told NFL reporter Aaron Wilson. “Terrell is ready to contribute and play any role, big or small. He’s in outstanding shape. He looks no different than he did years ago. I watched him running routes full-speed with DeSean (Jackson) and he looked great. He didn’t drop a pass.

“He most recently ran a 4.5 40-yard dash, which was his warm-up. He’s a legend. We want to make history and see him break these records. If anybody can do it, it’s him. His three Ds are desire, dedication and discipline. He embodies that every day, even running hills at 3 a.m. on Christmas morning.”

Owens’ quest to become the oldest player to start an NFL game at 49 caught some traction in San Francisco earlier this month, but didn’t amount to a signing. In 2011, he finished his NFL career with 1,078 receptions, 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns. During his time with the Cowboys, he totaled 325 receptions, 3,587 receiving yards and 38 touchdowns in 47 games played.

“Oh yeah, absolutely,” Owens responded to questions about his ability to contribute to an NFL offense. “Hey look, man, I’ve already kind of sprinkled some words out there. Like yo, if you guys need a receiver, I’m good. Listen here: third down, red zone, trust me. I’m a very valuable asset.”

Terrell Owens, Cowboys reunion a ‘long shot’

Cowboys reporter Jane Slater dug into the claims of a potential reunion brewing in Dallas, finding the answer to be a resounding “no.”

“This was a fun one to ask about and follow up on but according to my sources….he did call Jerry but not happening,” Slater tweeted on Wednesday. “As it was described to me ‘last game in 2010 and 49 years old….’ Never say never with Jerry but seems like a long shot.”

Adding Owens to the mix in Dallas would be an odd turn of events following the former star’s comments earlier this month. During an interview, he advised free agent Odell Beckham to avoid signing with the Cowboys.

“As far as the teams that everybody keeps throwing out there – the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants – if he goes to either one of those it’s going to be a short-lived season,” Owens said on 95.7 The Game’s Morning Roast with Bonta and Shasky. “He might as well as just … he’s gonna go there for what, one game or two? Then he’s gonna be watching the playoffs. He should go to a team with obviously a good quarterback.”
