There’s few better ways to emerge on the recruiting scene than your first two offers being Texas A&M and Alabama. For 2024 Lafayette (La.) Christian Academy linebacker Sandy Lewis, that’s exactly what happened last month.

After camping at Alabama in June, the Crimson Tide became the first school to offer the rising junior. Soon after, the Aggies followed with an offer to 6-foot-3, 225 pounder.

“Talking to the Texas A&M coaches, I really loved it,” he said. “I love how they admire my game, how they talked about if I came to their school, that positions I would play, what I could accomplish over there.”

Lewis was offered by David Bowen, Texas A&M’s Director of College Scouting, who hails from Louisiana as well. For Lewis, the home state connection, paired with the Aggies’ reach into the state stands out to him.

“Coach David Bowen, he had called me and told me he’s trying to pull kids in from Louisiana,” he said. “He’s also from Baton Rouge, I lived in that area, I’m from that area. So having that connection with him, that makes me want to go visit the school even more because I’m going to have people from where I came from over there.”

He added.

“I really like how they’re pulling in Louisiana kids, and kids from all over,” he said. “Not just from Texas or just from the South.”

Lewis has yet to visit College Station but is already planning to make a trip down in the fall for a game or two. He noted that as his recruitment takes off, he’s evaluating coaching staffs, how current players feel about the school and getting a feel of each school he’s evaluating.

The rising junior still holds just the two offers from Alabama and Texas A&M to date, but a number of schools are in contact, including Houston, Baylor and Louisiana-Lafayette, among others. Heading into his junior season, he could see his recruitment continue to blow up.

This offseason, Lewis is working on becoming as versatile as possible. He’s set to

“I’m trying to work on covering,” he said. “Like covering an outside reciever or slot reciever. I’m going to play multiple positions so even if I on the field at safety, I can go play safety, if they need me at inside linebacker, I’ll play inside linebacker. Just anything they need me to do.”

Lewis is currently unranked in both the On3 Consensus and On300 rankings. The rising junior has an On3 NIL Valuation of $5.7K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
