Texas linebacker Kendrick Blackshire has re-entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed. Blackshire spent the spring at Texas after transferring from Alabama in January.

Blackshire appeared in eight games for Alabama in 2023 and turned in his best season yet. He totaled a career-high 16 tackles and a tackle for loss, while also picking up a fumble recovery and forcing a fumble. All told, Blackshire had 25 tackles and two TFLs over 19 appearances with the Crimson Tide.

It was a major pickup for Texas, in his home state, out of the portal. And head coach Steve Sarkisian was excited about the addition.

“Coming back home, from Duncanville,” Sarkisian said in February. “Big, physical inside linebacker where we just got a void at that position. Jaylan (Ford) moved onto the NFL. Jett Bush moves on. We had a couple of transfers. We signed a great class a year ago of five high school linebackers but you still want some of that veteran leadership on your defense. To bring him on board was big.”

Blackshire played high school football at Duncanville (TX) High School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 193 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

A former Texas defender announced his transfer commitment recently

Former Texas EDGE J’Mond Tapp has committed to Arizona State, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. He spent two seasons with the Longhorns.

In the 2023 campaign, Tapp made seven appearances. He finished the season with eight tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and one quarterback hit. Tapp only played in two games during his true freshman season in 2022. He recorded one tackle between the two appearances.

Tapp played high school football at Acension Catholic (LA), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 130 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Tapp is the 25th player Arizona State has landed in the transfer portal. The team has also lost 23 players to the transfer portal during or since the 2023 campaign. Arizona State is currently ranked No. 68 in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.
