The month of May has now brought Texas a pair of blue-chip commitments. On Wednesday, Willis (Texas) four-star athlete Jermaine Bishop Jr. told On3’s Hayes Fawcett that he has committed to the Longhorns.

It’s a big victory for the SEC program, as Bishop, the No. 74 overall prospect in the 2026 On3 Industry Ranking, is now one of Texas’ top two commits this cycle. He also provides head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff with a jolt in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

The addition of Bishop moves Texas’ class up three spots to No. 15 nationally. It jumped Arizona State, Washington and Florida State and now has seven commitments overall.

“The culture is what keeps me coming back,” Bishop told InsideTexas earlier this year. “Those guys are really great and treat me like family. I got an offer from (Texas) two years ago, so them being able to keep that culture and that bond is pretty special.”

Texas collects important in-state commitment

The Longhorns now have five in-state commits this cycle. Bishop is the No. 10 player in the Lone Star State.

Back in February, Melissa (Texas) four-star offensive tackle Max Wright committed. He checks in just outside the top 300 nationally and is the No. 23 OT in the cycle. Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek four-star wide receiver Chris Stewart has been pledged since last June.

Earlier this month on May 9, Texas beat out LSU for New Orleans Edna Karr four-star cornerback Hayward Howard Jr. The No. 11 player in Louisiana, Howard Jr. is currently the lone listed defensive prospect in the mix.

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage five-star quarterback Dia Bell committed to Texas last June, too. The son of former NBA veteran Raja Bell, Dia has only seen his stock soar since locking in with Sarkisian, AJ Milwee and Co. He ranks No. 4 nationally and No. 2 at QB in the updated On300.

“A precision passer with the arm talent, size, and athleticism to translate to college football and beyond,” On3’s Scouting and Rankings team writes of Bell. “Mechanically clean with a smooth throwing motion that he replicates with consistency. Has polished footwork that is married to his upper body. Shows high-level arm talent, delivering well-placed passes to multiple levels of the field. A dangerous operator from the pocket.”

Spring (Texas) Klein three-star interior offensive lineman Nicolas Robertson and Plano (Texas) Prestonwood Christian three-star long snapper Trott O’Neal round out the pledge list.
