Texas Tech lands 4-star safety Donovan Webb

Four-star Frisco (Texas) Panther Creek safety Donovan Webb is staying in the Lone Star State after all.
Despite a furious push from Michigan in recent months, the Red Raiders sealed the deal with a pair of visits to Lubbock in the past few months. Webb came to town for his official visit in early April, then returned for what turned out to be a pivotal unofficial visit the weekend of June 20. Sandwiched in between those was his OV with the Wolverines, who looked to be in control of the race to land him.
But Joey McGuire and Co. turned up the heat heading into his decision on Wednesday and kept one of their top in-state targets at home.
“Those coaches are taking the time to get to know him and his family. That’s the main thing Donovan’s been looking for in this process, and they’re doing a great job,” Dennis Webb, Donovan’s father, told Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman.

Webb is coming off a junior season where he recorded 120 tackles, five interceptions, two forced fumbles and nine pass breakups.
He also pitched in on offense and special teams, and was named the Texas 7-4A D-1 Co-Defensive MVP.
The 6-foot, 165-pounder ranks as the nation’s No. 336 prospect and No. 33 safety, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
With him in the fold, the Red Raiders now have 16 commits this cycle, headlined by Webb and fellow blue-chipper S’Vioarean Martin. Of the pledges, more than 80% hail from inside the Lone Star State, as Tech continues to mine all over Texas for talent.
