Tim Tebow 'can't wait' to see how playoff committee evaluates Alabama, Georgia

Championship Weekend is here, which means by Sunday morning, the dust will have settled on Saturday’s games as the committee readies the release of the official College Football Playoff field.

Obviously, the league title games will clean up the playoff picture as certain contenders win or lose. But there’s a very strong possibility the selection committee is still left with a real pickle on their hands on Sunday and have to compare resumes between two very similar teams.

Particularly, SEC Network host and former Florida Gator Tim Tebow is curious to see how the committee will handle SEC powerhouses Georgia and Alabama. If the Dawgs win, at 13-0 they’d slide into the No. 1 or No. 2 seed alongside Michigan while the Crimson Tide would be out. If Alabama wins, though, that would set up some difficult decisions in the ratings.

“I think they’re two of the better teams in college football,” said Tebow of the two SEC title game participants before explaining how tough of a decision the committee would have if Alabama were to beat Georgia to even both clubs up with a 12-1 record heading into selection day.

“Yeah, I think Georgia, from top to bottom this year, I think they’ve been playing as one of the best throughout the entire season, and they’ve gotten better, which is scary for the level they started. I think there’ve been times this year that Alabama has showed that they’re at that level too. It’s going to be really interesting to see what the committee has to say, because it’s going to be crazy to see. I actually can’t wait.”

If Tim Tebow himself was making the decision, there are several different factors he’d weigh.

“I personally struggle with it and I argue with myself on: Do you look at the Improvement of Alabama throughout the season and do you put more weight in that? Or do you put more weight in the head-to head?

“The game’s got to matter, but then you also got to be willing to look at the adaptation of these teams. There is very little that is recognizable about Week 2 Alabama versus right now and it’ll be really interesting to see how the committee looks at that, and I think anybody that really knows football looks and sees a different team. But as someone that loves the game, I the head-to-head has to matter as well. I think it’s one of the hardest arguments to make right now in viewing all of it, because it’s a different team, but then you’re minimizing what happened this season as well, and it’s hard.”

One way or another, the selection committee will have some very serious deliberating to do on Sunday.
