Toledo Rockets running back Peny Boone has committed to transfer to the UCF Knights, per Hayes Fawcett. He previously played for the Maryland Terrapins.

In 2023, Peny Boone was the MAC Player of the Year. He rushed for 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had 15 receptions for 2019 yards and another touchdown through the air. That performance helped him lead Toledo to an 11-3 record and an appearance in the MAC Championship Game.

Peny Boone spent two seasons at Toledo. Prior to that, he spent two seasons with Maryland. Over the course of his career, Boone has rushed for 2,097 yards and 20 touchdowns.

UCF is coming off a 6-7 season, which was the program’s first in the Big 12. The Knights were excellent on the ground for the season, finishing with the fifth in the country in rushing offense with 228.23 yards per game on the ground.

Peny Boone played high school football at Martin Luther King (Michigan), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 380 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Following the 2023 season, Peny Boone entered the portal and initially committed to the Louisville Cardinals in early January. However, by April, he had re-entered the Transfer Portal.

Peny Boone has two years of eligibility remaining.

UCF and the Transfer Portal

Ahead of the 2024 season, the UCF Knights have been very active in the Transfer Portal as they look to build their roster for the future.

To this point in the 2024 transfer cycle, the Knights have the 12th-ranked transfer class, according to the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. That class includes 23 players who have left the program and 19 who are coming into the program. That group of incoming players includes the most recent addition, Peny Boone.

Among those transferring into the program, 13 are coming in from power conference schools. Meanwhile, of those leaving the program, four have committed to power conference schools at this point.

One key task for head coach Gus Malzahn is going to be to get the roster to 85 scholarship players. Between incoming players and managing transfers, that can be difficult to do. However, it’s also important to get to that number to have as much depth as possible.
