Basketball season is in full effect. Typically, the recruiting process for high school recruits begins to slow a bit during this time. This is because of the hectic schedule from both parties (players and coaches) — multiple games a week, leading to it being more difficult to find time during the midst of the season.

However, several head coaches in college basketball make it their mission to visit their top recruits. This helps further build a relationship, continues the scouting process, and shows the player that they are a priority for that school.

I’ve decided to do a mini series in which I ask several of the nation’s top 2025 prospects which head coaches have been in to see them this season. This includes coming to their respective high school to visit in between classes, for games, and practices.

First up is four-star Trey McKenney, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of St. Mary’s in Flint, Michigan. McKenney is ranked as the No. 13 overall recruit in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

7 head coaches have been in to see McKenney this season

McKenney told On3 the following head coaches have visited him this season:

  • Georgetown’s Ed Cooley
  • Michigan’s Juwan Howard
  • Missouri’s Dennis Gates
  • Michigan State’s Tom Izzo
  • Rutgers’ Steve Pikiell
  • Notre Dame’s Micah Shrewsberry
  • Edit: Oklahoma’s Porter Moser

Scouting Report

“Trey McKenney is a strong-framed guard. He has a sturdily-built base and a plus wingspan. McKenney had great feel for the game. He is an adept, multi-level scorer. He has range that extends beyond the arc, he shoots with consistency and good balance. What he lacks in burst, he makes up for with pace. Has a solid straight-line handle. He is a solid passer and can get his teams into sets. While he might not be the optimal height as an off-guard, McKenney is a tough and sound defender. He uses his strength and his toughness well when guarding the point of attack. He is instinctive in the passing lanes. McKenney is a productive player on both ends of the court, consistently making plays.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw

McKenney’s NIL Valuation worth over $150K

Trey McKenney currently holds a $169,000 On3 NIL Valuation, which ranks 42nd in high school basketball.

The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets the standard market NIL value for high school and college athletes. A proprietary algorithm, the On3 NIL Valuation calculates an athlete’s NIL value using dynamic data points targeting three primary categories: performance, influence and exposure.

About On3 NIL Valuation, Brand Value, Roster Value

While the algorithm includes deal data, it does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals athletes have completed to date, nor does it set an athlete’s NIL valuation for their entire career.
