Multiple 5-stars highlight biggest commitments in the month of October

The weeks are ticking down until December’s Early Signing period for college football recruits, and some of the nation’s top uncommitted 2024 prospects came off the board in the month of October.
That includes multiple five-star prospects in the class and also involved some of the top programs in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. A look at the biggest commitments in October and which teams benefitted:
5-star DL LJ McCray – Florida
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 25
Scouting Summary: “LJ McCray is a big-framed, athletic defensive lineman with pass rush ability. Has translatable physical attributes and athleticism at the position that point to a high developmental ceiling. Measured in at over 6-foot-6, 260 pounds prior to his senior season. Has outstanding length and a large frame. Arms check in at 34.75 inches, with hands measuring 10.5 inches. Lines up as a big defensive end on Friday nights. Shows upside as a pass rusher, using first-step quickness to get into the backfield. Has high-end closing speed for a player of his size. Plays with a very encouraging level of physicality. Bullies offensive linemen on contact and finishes plays with violence. Works to get off blocks with vigor. Also sees time as a tight end. Finished his senior season with 17.5 tackles for loss. Can continue honing his technical skill as he fills out and grows into his body.”
5-star DL Armondo Blount – Florida State
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 20
Scouting Summary: “Armondo Blount is a versatile, athletic defensive lineman who is capable of creating disruption from any spot on the defensive front. Looks like one of the more physically-gifted defenders early on in the 2025 cycle. Measured in at close to 6-foot-3.5, 250 pounds. Has the size of a future defensive tackle but the athleticism and pass rush skills of a top EDGE prospect. Flashes a plus first-step and quick hands both on Friday nights and in camp settings. Turned in a dominant sophomore campaign at Miami Dillard, showing advanced pass rush skills as a stand up rusher. Lives in the backfield, using his athleticism, strong hands and instincts to make plays behind the line of scrimmage. Also doubles as a top track and field athlete, with a personal best of 55-6 feet in the shot put. Remains to be seen where he’ll end up from a size perspective, adding to some ambiguity around his position long-term.”
5-star WR Ryan Wingo – Texas
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 26
Scouting Summary: “Ryan Wingo is an electric playmaker who picks up yards in a hurry. Ran a 10.64 100m, 21.46 200m and a 50.72 400m in 2022. The ability to defeat the angle with the ball in his hands is among the best in the 2024 cycle early on. Can take the top off of defenses with ease but is not just a straight line player. His ability to make defenders miss in tight spaces and finish runs is rare for someone with his long speed. Has a chance to be an impact player at the next level. Older brother is former Arkansas running back Ronnie Wingo.”
On3 5-star OT Weston Davis – LSU
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 92 (No. 18 in the On300)
Scouting Summary: “Weston Davis is a light-footed, flexible offensive tackle with one of the higher developmental upsides among offensive linemen in the 2024 cycle. Measured in at over to 6-foot-5, and north of 280 pounds in the spring prior to his senior year. Has plus length for the position with arms that have measured over 35-inches. Was a basketball-first athlete prior to taking up football in high school. Still relatively new to the game, but has shown considerable upside. Has high-end movement skills. Easily works to the second level as a run blocker and has burst and bounce in his movements. Shows budding physicality as a run blocker and works to finish blocks. Has the natural skill set to develop into a gifted pass protector. Will need time to gain strength and mass along with honing his technique. Should benefit from a redshirt year and time in a college strength program. Doubles as a contributor on Beaumont United’s nationally-ranked basketball team.”
4-star DL Aydin Breland – Oregon
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 39
Scouting Summary: “Aydin Breland is a pass-rushing defensive lineman with rare movement skills for his size. Measured in at around 6-foot-4.5, 320 pounds in the off-season prior to his senior season. Has good length for the position with arms over 33 inches. Has a naturally large frame, with his weight fluctuating between 280 and 320 pounds for most of his high school career. Typically lines up at defensive end for SoCal powerhouse Mater Dei. Moves like a much smaller player. Pushes the pocket with his speed to power. Bowls offensive tackles into the backfield on contact. Has the strength to stack and shed linemen to make plays against the run. Tracks down plays with his notable pursuit athleticism. Punishes offenses for leaving him unblocked. Also participates in track and field. Turned in a personal best throw of 46-6 feet in the shot put as a sophomore. Works as a rotational player for Mater Dei and is not as productive as most other blue chip defensive linemen to this point. Finished his junior season with 24 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 4 sacks. Older for the cycle, turning 19 years old in January of his senior year.”

4-star WR Ny Carr – Miami
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 53
Scouting Summary: “Ny Carr is a fluid route-runner who wins with ball tracking and creating yards after the catch. Shows excellent body control and balance in his route running and at the catch point. Solid production as a sophomore with 40 catches for 856 yards and 13 touchdowns for one of the top high school programs in Georgia. Three-sport athlete that jumped a 5’10” high jump in 2021 who also plays basketball. All-around skill set for the position who will continue to improve as he physically develops into his frame.”
4-star EDGE CJ Jackson – LSU
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 188 (No. 65 in the On300)
Scouting Summary: “CJ Jackson is an active speed rusher who creates constant disruption due to his quickness and hair-on-fire effort level. Measured in at over 6-foot-3, around 220 pounds prior to his senior season. Has good length for the position, with arms that measure 33.75 inches. Has notable play speed. Shows high-level quickness, firing off the snap. Redirects quickly with lateral movements. Capable of winning with pure speed, but also shows the ability to hit offensive tackles with up and under and hesitation moves. Shows outstanding speed in pursuit. Closes very quickly. Plays with a high effort level. Plays with a willing level of physicality and throws his body around as a run defender, despite being lighter. Will need to add mass to aid in anchoring against the run. Has solid size but is not as overly imposing as some other blue-chip EDGE prospects.”
4-star safety Reggie Powers – Oklahoma
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 211
Scouting Summary: “Reggie Powers has always been an enforcer in the run game. “His ability to trigger and play downhill is textbook for the safety position. And as a senior, he has added another tool to his bag; center fielder. He has displayed the range and long speed necessary in order to thrive as a middle of the field safety at the next level. If Powers can maintain consistency in developing his skillset in the back half and continue playing with discipline around the box, he will be a dominant three-down weapon in the secondary.”
4-star CB Ondre Evans – Georgia
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 137
Scouting Summary: “Ondre Evans is a physically-gifted corner prospect with high-end athleticism and long speed. Has unverified size, but is listed at 6-foot, 170 pounds. Looks to have good length for the position. Is one of the top sprinters in the state of Tennessee. Finished second in the state finals with a 10.55 second mark in the 100 meters. Also posted a 21.85 second time in the 200 meters. One of the faster corner prospects in the 2024 cycle. A two-way player on Friday nights. Lines up as an outside corner on defense. Shows the long speed to carry vertical routes downfield. Time spent at receiver helps with his ball skills when projecting to corner. Making the full-time move to corner and needs to continue honing his footwork in coverage. Physical and athletic traits are ahead of his skill as a player at this stage. Has moldable attributes that point to a high upside but will need time to further develop his skills.”
4-star EDGE Brian Robinson – Kentucky
On3 Industry Ranking:
Recruiting Summary: Early on in Brian Robinson‘s recruitment, Michigan was considered the heavy favorite for the athletic star out of Westerville (Ohio) North. In-state Ohio State looked elsewhere for EDGE prospects, and the Wolverines were trending heavily. After his official visits in June to Michigan, Penn State and Kentucky though, the Wildcats moved to the top of his list. A few months after that, Robinson joined up with Mark Stoops’ top-25 recruiting class in Lexington.”
