Travis Perry is the No. 78 player in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. The 6-foot-2 point guard became the state of Kentucky’s all-time leading scorer this season when he knocked down his 4,338th point in a state playoff game for his Eddyville (KY) Lyon County High team.

“I’m really letting the game come to me right now, playing at a great pace,” Perry told On3. “On these circuits, there are so many athletic guys out there. So I’m picking my spots and trying to make the right play every time.

On3 caught up with four-star Travis Perry recently to talk about his visits.

Perry talks officials

“I took three junior year official visits to Purdue, Michigan, and with the Old staff at Ole Miss,” Perry said. “I took a quick official visit to Cincinnati before the period started. Those are the four.”

Purdue: “We’re in constant contact. They came in for an in-home and have used all their visits. They’ve done a great job showing me that I’m a priority recruit for them, and that is big for me. For Coach (Matt) Painter to take so much time out of his busy schedule to come to see me means a lot.

“They play similarly to how I play in high school and AAU; they play the right way, move the ball, play hard, and get it done using their skill and IQ. They manipulate the game to get the shots they want and don’t let teams speed them up.”

Michigan: “Coach (Phil) Martelli and Coach Juwan (Howard) are some of my favorites. They just do things the right way. Coach Martelli came down for an in-home and just spent some time with me. For him to see where I work out and get to know me; that is big for me. They’re in constant contact.

“On the visit, they spent a lot of time showing me how I fit their system and how they play. Going in, they would tell me quite often how I fit their culture, and when I visited, that really stood out for me.”

Cincinnati: “They’re definitely on the uprise. Coach (Wes) Miller does things the right way. He coaches his guys hard, and he gets the best out of everyone. They love playing for him, and that is something that is big. He is there for his guys, and he puts a lot of time into them.

“They’re improving as a program, and they’re moving up to the Big 12. I’m excited to see them compete this season.”

Perry talks recruitment

“I don’t have any visits set up yet,” Perry said. “I’m sure that as these two live periods in July wind down, I’ll start setting some dates. Coach (Chris) Beard has been in contact with Ole Miss recently. I haven’t been face-to-face with him, so I’ll probably take one there. Indiana has been talking about getting one.”

Ole Miss: “The campus is beautiful down there. I’m from Western Kentucky, so it’s kind of that southern feel, and that is kind of how Ole Miss is; that small-town vibe. I like that. Also, talking with Coach (Chris) Beard, he knows what he’s talking about. He knows how to win. Talking with him, he thinks I’m a guy who fits well into his system really well and would help them win. He wants to have me down to talk basketball, and that is something I love to do.”

Indiana: “Coach (Brian) Walsh and Coach (Mike) Woodson tell me how much they like how I play the game. They think I’m a winner, and they really want guys like that in their program. They have a lot of talented guys coming in, guys who will help their program continue excelling, which is really intriguing.”

In his words

“I don’t really have a specific time frame for anything yet,” Travis Perry said. “I’ll hopefully be able to narrow things down here after these live periods and get on a couple of these visits.

“The big thing for me will be the relationship I have with the coaching staff. It is one thing to go down to a school and have a great visit, but you have to go somewhere you are comfortable. These people are going to be like your second family for a couple of years. Also, I’ll look closely at how I fit on the basketball side. I’ve learned going to these camps all over that system is really big for a player like myself. Going into a system that plays the game the right way is big for me.

“I want to play for a coach who wants to compete and win. I know everyone wants to win, but some guys just really, really have to win. That is big for me also.”
