Trey McKenney jumped to No. 9 in the recent 2025 On3 150 update. The 6-foot-4 guard finished No. 5 in Nike’s EYBL 17u Circuit regular season, scoring this season at 19.9 points. He was playing up in age with The Family.

“I’m tough,” McKenney told On3. “I can score on all three levels, and I bring the same toughness and intensity on the other end of the floor too. I watch a lot of Devin Booker and bigger guards like Joe Johnson.”

On3 talked with four-star Trey McKenney after a recent live viewing to get updated on his recruitment.

McKenney talks visits

“I’m talking with UCLA, Stanford, and USC,” McKenney said. “Those are mostly the schools I’m trying to go see in the Fall.”

UCLA: “They have a free-flowing offense, and he lets his guards go, gives them a lot of freedom. Seeing what I could do there, them showing me how I can step in and play, and their vision for me to be a big asset to the team is good. And it’s in California, I mean, who doesn’t want to go out there?”

Southern California: “They play more of a pro-style offense that allows their guards to be able to get their shot off. Looking at their recruits this year, I mean Bronny James is LeBron James’ son. If he trusts his son enough to go there, it’s something to look at.”

Stanford: “It’s a high-academic school. My mom likes them for their academics. It’s a blessing really to have an Ivy League-type school on you like one, especially one who has produced some pros recently.”

Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Iowa are all on me hard,” McKenney said.

Michigan: “Coach Juwan Howard has played and coached at the highest level; he’s been there. So he’s been teaching me things, calling me, talking with me, helping me out like that.”

Michigan State: “Coach Tom Izzo is definitely a legendary coach. I talk with him and coach TK (Thomas Kelley), and they text me all the time. I have a pretty good relationship with them; they check on me off the court and on the court.”

Ohio State: “I saw what they did with Brice Sensabaugh there this year. I was able to watch him and what he did and kind of see what it would be like for me if I went there.”

Iowa: “They play really fast and give their guards a lot of freedom to make plays. That really sticks out to me.”

UConn and Kentucky are two schools that haven’t offered, but I’m hearing from them a good bit,” McKenney said.

In his words

“I’ll be looking at the relationship the coaches build with, not only me but my family, too,” McKenney said. “I’m going to look at how I fit on the team, both on and off the floor, and I’ll see how big of a priority I am for the coaches and the program.

“I play my best in a freestyle offense where I can make quick decisions on and off the ball.”
