Virginia Tech quarterback Dylan Wittke has committed to Minnesota out of the NCAA transfer portal, he announced on his Twitter account on Tuesday night.

Wittke left Virginia Tech following the spring after it appeared the backup job might instead go to William “Pop” Watson III.

In one season at Virginia Tech, Wittke did not see the field and instead took a redshirt. His next collegiate action in a game will be his first.

But the Golden Gophers obviously feel like there’s some upside to work with, taking him in out of the transfer portal.

Prior to enrolling at Virginia Tech, Dylan Wittke was a three-star prospect and the No. 1,207 overall recruit in the 2023 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

He also checked in as the No. 64 quarterback in the class and the No. 113 overall player in the state of Georgia, hailing from Buford (GA) Buford.

Virginia Tech linebacker enters transfer portal

Along with Dylan Wittke, Virginia Tech linebacker Tavorian Copeland has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos has learned. Copeland was a redshirt freshman for the Hokies this past season.

A three-star prospect coming out of Appomattox County High School in Appomattox, Va., Copeland was among the top 50 players in his home state of Virginia. he chose to play for the Hokies over offers from Virginia, William and Mary, and Richmond, among others.

Just a true freshman during the 2023 season, Copeland did not see any game action for Virginia Tech. Rather, Copeland took a redshirt and watched from the sidelines. Now, he will look for a new home to continue his college football career.
