There’s finishing your block and then there’s what Coastal Carolina wide receiver Tyler Roberts did East Carolina cornerback Malik Fleming on short touchdown run in the fourth quarter. It was a lone viral-worthy moment from an otherwise forgettable game for the Chanticleers.

With Coastal Carolina trailing by multiple scores, they punched in a short touchdown run. Mundane enough, but away from the play, Roberts was blocking Fleming not only out of the play, but literally off the field.

Somehow he dodged a penalty on the play as the announcers remarked how “chippy” the game was getting — and had been.

However, the block from Roberts was probably borne out of frustration as East Carolina romped to a double-digit margin — and eventually win.

Coastal Carolina played the entire second half without quarterback Grayson McCall

Coastal Carolina starting quarterback Grayson McCall is questionable to return for the Chanticleers after appearing to land on his head on a touchdown run midway through the second quarter of the Birmingham Bowl against East Carolina. The game is at halftime with the Pirates leading, 24-14.

According to reporter Stephen Igoe, McCall went to the locker room after the hit, presumably to get some medical checks. Whether he takes the field for the second half remains to be seen.

The touchdown gave Coastal a 14-10 lead at the time, with McCall putting his body on the line to get the score.

As McCall goes up and over, the pair of defenders bringing him down also collide into him and add a bunch more weight to an already heavy hit on the ground.

McCall eventually came out of the locker room after the half in street clothes. When he was shown on the broadcast, he appeared to be in good spirits and was talking with teammates despite the big hit he took just hours before.
