North Carolina started this week with a two-man class of No. 1 ranked GG Jackson and No. 15 ranked Simeon Wilcher. This pair gave the Tar Heels the No. 1 overall spot in On3’s 2023 team rankings. As it becomes more apparent that GG Jackson will be decommitting from North Carolina, where will Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels look to replace Jackson in their 2023 class?

It is no secret the skilled power forward position is significant in Tar heel head coach Hubert Davis’ system. During UNC’s run to the Final Four last season, Brady Manek 18.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, and shot 47.8-percent from three.

On Tuesday North Carolina extended two offers, 6-foot-10 four-star Zayden High and 6-foot-8 four-star TJ Power. Both players fit the role of the skilled power forward made popular by Manek and vacated by Jackson.

Four-star PF Zayden High

Zayden High is averaging close to 11 points and 8.5 rebounds per game on Nike’s EYBL Circuit. The 6-foot-10 power forward is a noted shooter with deep, consistent range.

Last season at Spring Branch (TX) Smith Valley, High averaged 21.0 points, 12.3 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and knocked down 1.3 threes per game. He has good size, is a good athlete, and moves like a wing. His father, Michael High, also played college basketball at Southern Nazarene.

While it is a little late in the game, High has only taken one official visit to Villanova. He is also being recruited pretty heavily by the likes of Texas, Michigan, Houston, and Arkansas.

Four-star PF TJ Power

TJ Power is averaging 17.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game. He is also shooting 42.9-percent from three with Team BABC on Nike’s EYBL Circuit.

Another interesting tidbit about Power is he is a highly sought-after baseball player. The towering lefty is regularly over 90 miles per hour on the mound. Power is a versatile forward, who oozes toughness, and can handle, shoot, and pass in the half-court.

Power is a little further along in his recruitment than High is. The skilled forward has taken four official visits, Iowa, Virginia, Notre Dame, and Indiana. After last weekend’s EYBL Kansas City, his recruitment reached blue-blood status as he picked up offers from North Carolina, Kansas, and UCLA.
