Will Healy is out as the head coach at Charlotte, according to Will Kunkel of FOX Charlotte.

“Will Healy will be fired as Charlotte head football coach, according to sources,” tweeted Kunkel. “Pete Rossomando will be named the interim head coach.”

After breaking the news, Kunkel’s report was confirmed by Brett McMurphy of The Action Network.

“Charlotte fires coach Will Healy, source told @ActionNetworkHQ. 1st reported by @WillKunkelFOX,” added McMurphy. “Healy was 15-24 in four seasons, including 1-7 this year.”

Moreover, the 49ers hired Healy prior to the 2019 season after he led the Austin Peay Governors for three seasons. While Charlotte won seven games during his first season, it’s all been downhill since then, epitomized by their aforementioned 1-7 record to start the 2022 season.

At the moment, Charlotte is in the middle of a four-game losing streak, with the final exclamation point on the Healy era a 34-15 loss to Florida Atlantic on Saturday. The 49ers have been far from competitive, as they’ve only been within one score in one of their seven losses this season.

As Kunkel reported, Charlotte will turn their team over to offensive line coach Pete Rossomando now, as the 50-year old coach has a wealth of coaching experience. In the past, Rossomando has been on the staff for Power Five squads like Rutgers and Vanderbilt.

With four games remaining in the season, a bowl game is already out of the question for the 49ers. Still, Rossomando will look to get the program back on track, perhaps throwing his hat in the ring for the coaching vacancy in the future.

Nevertheless, Charlotte is hoping much better times are ahead as they move on from Will Healy, as a nightmare 2022 is giving way to a new beginning, it seems.
