2025 MLB Draft: Max Belyeu contract details revealed for Colorado Rockies supplementary second-round pick

The Colorado Rockies selected former Texas outfielder Max Belyeu with the No. 74 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. On Monday, MLB.com’s Jim Callis revealed Belyeu’s rookie contract details.
“Supplemental 2nd-rder Max Belyeu signs w/ @Rockies for $1,111,000 (slot 74 value),” Callis wrote on X. “@TexasBaseball OF, one of best college hitters in @MLBDraft in terms of hitting for both power & average, plus arm strength for right field.”
Belyeu spent three seasons at Texas. While with the Longhorns, he amassed 106 appearances. Belyeu boasted a .318 career batting average, along with 27 home runs and 84 RBIs. Moreover, Belyeu had an OPS of 1.030.
Unfortunately, Belyeu’s 2025 campaign was shortened due to a thumb injury, which sidelined him for nearly two months. Belyeu returned in time for the NCAA Tournament, but Texas was ultimately eliminated in the Austin Regional.
Although Belyeu had an impressive career at Texas, experts still believe he’ll need to make some substantial improvements to thrive at the next level. Ahead of the 2025 MLB Draft, MLB.com provided an in-depth analysis of Belyeu’s game.

“One of the best all-around offensive players in the college crop, Belyeu can hit for average and power while controlling the strike zone, though he was more aggressive than usual in 2025,” the scouting report read. “He has a quick left-handed swing geared for hard contact, showing the ability to pull pitches for home runs or backspin them out of the park to the opposite field.
“His ability to put the bat on the ball cuts into his walk totals a bit and he struggled against non-fastballs with the U.S. collegiate national team and in the Cape Cod League last summer and again with the Longhorns this spring. Belyeu is a good athlete with average-to-solid speed but doesn’t stand out with his instincts on the bases or in the outfield. He’s inconsistent with his reads and routes, which precludes him from playing center field. His arm is both strong and accurate, so he fits nicely in right.”
The Colorado Rockies could use the help. The team is 24-75 this season, and one of the worst teams in the MLB. As of this report, the team has a .233 batting average. If Belyeu can continue to be consistent at the plate against elite competition, he may be called up for the Rockies sooner rather than later.
