Brock Purdy injury update: 49ers make final decision on QB's status vs. Rams

The 3-1 San Francisco 49ers will be extremely shorthanded on offense heading into their Week 5 matchup against the also 3-1 Los Angeles Rams Thursday night.
Quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) and wide receivers Ricky Pearsall (knee) and Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) have all been ruled out of San Francisco’s TNF clash against the Rams, per ESPN‘s Adam Schefter.
This marks Purdy’s third missed game of the season, while Jennings will miss his second game and Pearsall will miss his first game. The trio have played together in just two of San Francisco’s four games this season (1-1). Backup quarterback Mac Jones will make his third start of the season for the 49ers. In his previous two starts, he’d led the Niners to wins over the Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints.
The former Pro Bowler boasts 563 yards passing, four touchdowns and one interceptions in two starts. Purdy, in two starts, has put up extremely similar numbers. He has Jones beat with 586 yards passing, but has also tossed four touchdowns along with four interceptions. Although San Francisco has dealt with the injury bug all across its offense, it is averaging 368 yards per game (5th most in NFL).
49ers’ offense has been bit by injury bug this season
Along with the injuries to Jones, Pearsall and Jennings, star tight end George Kittle (hamstring) was placed on injury reserve in early September and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has not yet played in a game this season. On the defensive side of the ball, star DE Nick Bosa suffered a torn ACL and was also placed on Injured Reserve.

Luckily enough for the organization however, running back Christian McCaffrey looks completely healthy this season after dealing with bumps and bruises for the majority of his career. The former NFL Offensive Player of the year leads the team with 225 yards rushing and is second on the team (behind Pearsall) with 305 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Unfortunately, San Francisco’s bye week does not take place until Week 14. This roster could definitely use a week off to heal up, but that just isn’t the case in this beast of a league. It will now be up to Jones, McCaffrey and some afterthought receivers to keep the Niners afloat in the NFC West until their star players can return to full health at some point this season.
Kick-off for Thursday night’s conference game is scheduled for 8:15 PM ET. The game can be seen on Amazon Prime.
