Cam Heyward explains the details of Steelers team plane's emergency landing in Kansas City

The truth is out. Tensions were high after the Pittsburgh Steelers’ plan was forced to make an emergency landing following their win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Now, Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward is pulling back the curtain on what happened.
“It took a while to even get in the air. It took about two hours,” Heyward recalled during an appearance on “Good Morning Football.” “We got in the air. No one thought anything of it. About three hours into the flight. I think everybody starts getting woken up by the flight attendants and they’re telling us it’s a code yellow. I don’t know what a code yellow is. Nobody on the team knows what a code yellow is.
“We find out we’re gonna have to make an emergency landing in [Kansas City]. We finally land. It’s OK. I was Googling the best way to deal with impact on a plane just in case we did crash. But, luckily, nothing happened that way.
“We got landed. They told us the oil pressure was low. And that one of the engines almost went out. And I’m like, ‘OK, we’ll just get on another flight.’ They said it’s gonna take about five or six hours from that to get another flight here for everybody. And, you know, we had to have some kumbaya moments.”
More on the plane landing
They had no shortage of time to reflect on the moment. The team’s chartered plane from Las Vegas on Sunday night was supposed to get back to Pittsburgh by 5:30 a.m. on Monday morning, but they had to make an emergency landing in Kansas City.

Several media outlets reported that the Steelers’ plane landed at KCI Airport at 4:55 a.m. ET because of an oil pressure failure in one of the engines. Fire trucks arrived to inspect the Airbus A330-900, according to Pittsburgh CBS affiliate KDKA.
In an attempt to distract himself from the monotonous situation, Heyward tweeted through the stressful situation, including sending a message to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift to give them a ride. Swift was in attendance at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Sunday to watch the Chiefs beat the Bears amid rumors of a relationship with the star tight end.
If you hadn’t already connected the dots, the Steelers made it home safe and sound. The team will strap up again on Sunday to face off against the Houston Texans at 1 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
