Cam Skattebo was carted off the field after suffering a gruesome injury on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles early in the second quarter. The Giants rookie’s ankle appeared to be twisted after his leg fell underneath a defender looking to make a tackle.

After trainers reached him on the field, a cart was brought out shortly after. He received well wishes and supporting messages from his teammates before he was driven off the field. Even Eagles fans on-hand appeared to give the rookie standout some respect with a round of applause as he headed off to receive medical treatment.

Losing Skattebo is a major blow to the Giants offensive unit. Despite being a rookie, he has captivated New York Giants fans since the regular season began. Alongside fellow rookie, quarterback Jaxson Dart, the pair has been one of the most exciting QB-RB duos in the NFL this season.

Skattebo’s day finished with three rushing attempts for 12 yards. He added one reception for 18 yards as well.

Heading into the matchup, Skattebo had 98 rushing attempts on the season for 398 yards and five touchdowns. His scoring numbers are tied for fifth-most among running backs in the league heading into Week 8.

“He’s just a good teammate, plays with a high amount of I’d say energy, toughness,” Giants head coach Brian Daboll said after the 34-17 win over the Eagles on Thursday Night Football earlier this month. “Certainly people can feed off that.”

With Sunday’s game being the second time the Giants and Eagles matched up, Philadelphia was off to a good start keeping the electric tailback at bay out of the backfield. During their first meeting, Skattebo logged a career-best 98 rushing yards to go with 98 yards and a whopping three touchdowns on Oct. 9.

Skattebo is in his first season with the Giants after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. This came after he had a breakout season at Arizona State in 2024, rushing for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns in 13 games for ASU. In the Peach Bowl, Skattebo rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns and caught eight passes for 99 yards and threw a touchdown pass.

Without Skattebo, the Giants gave Tyrone Tracy the bulk of carries in the first half after he left the game. The Giants finished the first half with 48 rushing yards.
