Report: Dallas Cowboys expected to interview former Jets coach Robert Saleh for opening

The Dallas Cowboys are the latest team to express interest in former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh as a potential next head coach.
According to a report from the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys “have interest in and are expected to interview” the former Jets coach. That would be his second interview for a head coaching job this cycle.
On Tuesday, reports emerged that Robert Saleh had interviewed with the Jacksonville Jaguars for their opening.
Saleh was fired this year after starting the season 2-3. He was in his fourth year with the organization. Previously the Jets had gone 4-13, 7-10 and 7-10. But it wasn’t clear things were turning around, and a marriage with Aaron Rodgers hadn’t produced the kind of results the Jets brass had hoped for.
That left Robert Saleh looking for his next gig. Could he find a home in Dallas?
Deion Sanders on Dallas’ short list?
While we now know that Robert Saleh will get a shot to make his case for the Dallas Cowboys job, we also know that another candidate has emerged. Deion Sanders.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has spoken with Colorado’s Deion Sanders about the team’s head coaching vacancy, per a report from Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports.
Sanders is considered a top candidate, and discussions are expected to continue. While a formal interview hasn’t been scheduled, there is mutual interest, according to Schultz. The Cowboys plan to interview other candidates as well after parting ways with Mike McCarthy on Monday after five seasons.
Sanders, 57, has been linked with the Cowboys job given his strong ties to Dallas. He played five seasons with the Cowboys (1995-99), one of the stars for Dallas’ last Super Bowl-winning team in 1995.
Sanders previously said he didn’t plan on coaching in the NFL following his second season at Colorado. He helped engineer an impressive turnaround in Boulder this past year, taking the Buffaloes from a 4-8 record in 2023 to 9-4 in 2024. He also had the Heisman Trophy winner in Travis Hunter, as well as his son, top quarterback prospect Shedeur Sanders, leading the charge.
