The Dallas Cowboys just earned a big divisional win this afternoon in overtime against the New York Giants. Now, America’s Team has also announced a notable signing for their defense.

Per Jerry Jones, Dallas will be signing Jadeveon Clowney. He said so to the media following the 40-37 win for the Cowboys over the Giants today.

After Dallas traded away Micah Parsons last month, Clowney met with the franchise this past week for a visit. Reporting afterward was uncertain if it was going to lead to anything for the two sides, with later comments coming from Stephen Jones about the visit, but, now, the Cowboys are moving forward with an acquisition of Clowney.

Clowney has been available since his release by the Carolina Panthers, who he played in 14 games for last season, back in May. He, since being the No. 1 pick by the Texans in the 2014 NFL Draft, with him spending the next five seasons in Houston, has become a bit of a journeyman the last six years with stops in Seattle, Tennessee, Cleveland, Baltimore, and then most recently with Carolina.

In his eleven years in the NFL, Clowney has posted 409 tackles, 108 of those being for loss, along with 58 sacks, 32 deflections, 15 forced fumbles with nine recoveries as three of those have gone back for touchdowns, and a pick-six. That has, all while with the Texans, earned him three nods as a Pro Bowler from 2016 to 2018 and one honor as Second Team AP All-Pro in 2016. Clowney then had 46 tackles, a team high of nine being for loss, with 5.5 sacks, which also tied for a team lead, and four deflections as part of the Panthers’ defense last year.

The Cowboys could use another pass-rusher coming off that trade they made out of the preseason. Clowney will now fill that role as he is set to join Dallas (1-1) going into Week 3, when they’ll go on the road to play the Chicago Bears.
