DJ Moore injury update: Bears WR leaves game after scary hit

DJ Moore exited Monday night’s season opener against the Minnesota Vikings after suffering a nasty hit in the fourth quarter. Moore walked off the field, but after being tended to by athletic training staff for several minutes.
Moore was leveled by two Vikings defenders while attempting to catch a pass during the fourth quarter of the team’s season opener on Monday night. Moore almost caught the ball in the middle of the field, but the dueling hits jarred the ball loose.
The initial hit was provided by CB Isaiah Rodgers, while the hit that kept the pass from being completed was claimed by S Jay Ward. Officials on the field appeared to initially throw a flag for the hit, but picked it up in the moments after.
Meanwhile, there was another flag on the other side of the play. Bears QB Caleb Williams took a hard hit from Vikings linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. just the same when he released the ball. The officials called Pace for roughing the passer on the play, setting up a Bears touchdown to cut the lead to one score in the final minutes of regulation.
Williams was fine after the play and eventually tossed a one-yard touchdown pass to Rome Odunze with 2:02 left in the game. Moore did not return during the drive and looked shaken up as he walked alongside Bears athletic training staff.

At the time Moore left the game, he was the team’s leading receiver with three catches for 57 yards. The touchdown pass between Williams and Odunze was the only passing touchdown for the Bears on the night, so Moore was held out of the end zone by Minnesota’s defense.
Despite this, Moore was on the field for the Bears next possession — a nine-second attempt to get on the board. This didn’t go in the Bears’ favor, but Moore touched the ball twice on the possession before the game ended.
The first saw Moore move across the formation in motion, but the ball was snapped as he was crossing the quarterback and caused a fumble. However, the Vikings were already called for a delay of game before the snap. The second saw him have the ball pitched to him on the final play of regulation in a pitchy-pitchy-woo-woo scenario. He gave his team a chance but ultimately had to lateral it back. The Bears didn’t get far after that.
The Bears will hope that Moore’s hit didn’t cause any lingering issues injury-wise down the stretch. It’s clear that hit didn’t feel good in the moment, though.
