ESPN analysts debate whether Trevor Lawrence is facing make or break 2025 season

Trevor Lawrence came into the NFL with the type of hype few quarterbacks have seen in the league’s illustrious history. He’s been solid with the Jaguars, but he’s never blossomed into the top-tier quarterback many expected him to evolve into in Jacksonville.
The team still believes in their starter, as they undergo a seismic shift with offensive guru Liam Coen hired to take him to the next level. Will it come to fruition? ESPN analysts like Dan Orlovsky, Jeremy Fowler and Damien Woody debated on Monday’s edition of Get Up.
“Is Trevor Lawrence going to become more than average? That’s what he’s been the last three years,” Orlovesky wondered. “There’s been a little bit of turmoil. It’s been up and down, his QBR in the last three seasons. They have a new head coach in Liam Coen, one of these bright offensive minds in the NFL. They’ve got a guy that was Offensive Rookie of the Year caliber in Brian Thomas Jr. Obviously, the addition Travis Hunter.
“Can he get more consistent? Can he lead like he hasn’t done before? Can he become a difference maker for Jacksonville? Under the most pressure on any quarterback in their conference.”
Orlovsky is questioning whether or not Lawrence is capable, but Fowler wouldn’t put all of the blame simply on the quarterback for his struggles. No matter what though, it’ll come down to whether Lawrence can reach a new level in 2025. The bottom line is he has to play better.
“He’s not a bust, but he’s not helping himself,” Fowler added. “When you talk to people in Jacksonville they say, ‘Look, we still believe in him, but there’s that feeling around there that’s like, Hey, you’re on your third head coach in four to five years. It’s time to get this done and be more consistent week-in, week-out.’

“He shows the flashes. Then, he’ll have weeks where you’re thinking, ‘Hey, is this a Thursday or Sunday that we’re playing here?’ So it’s a bit of a mess. Jacksonville hasn’t always helped him, but he’s got to play better. He has to be more accurate.”
Finally, Woody was a bit more blunt with his evaluation. He’s of the opinion that it’s put-up-or-shut-up time for the former Clemson star: “Now or never. Excuses are over-with,” the former NFL offensive lineman said.
“You’re getting paid too much money to be going out there and putting that type of product out there. I don’t want to hear about the past or whatever. Liam Coen is in Jacksonville because of you, to fix you. If you can’t get it done, that’s bust material, in my opinion.”
Trevor Lawrence has been a middle of the road quarterback over the past few seasons. It’s fair for Jaguars fans and NFL analysts alike to expect more from him in 2025. We’ll see if he can deliver, or if more questions arise in Jacksonville moving forward.
