Green Bay Packers president weighs in on possibility of seeing Aaron Rodgers on Hard Knocks

Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy is hoping to get an inside look at how Aaron Rodgers fits in with the New York Jets at training camp via HBO’s Hard Knocks. Although the NFL has yet to announce which team will be featured on the annual reality show this offseason, Murphy has a hunch it will be the Jets.
In a column written for the Packers’ website, Murphy explained how the league can require teams who have missed the playoffs for two straight seasons to appear on the show. That would include the Jets, who have not made the playoffs since 2010.
Other than Aaron Rodgers, seven other former Packers players have joined the Jets this offseason including receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, safety Adrian Amos and offensive tackle Billy Turner. That should provide plenty of viewing interest for Murphy and Green Bay fans if the Jets are indeed the team chosen.
“Hard Knocks is a great show and gives fans an inside look at a team’s training camp,” Murphy wrote. “It also provides good publicity for the team. The downside is that it can be a distraction and teams are concerned that other teams can learn information from the show. The best thing to do if you don’t want to be on Hard Knocks is to make the playoffs every year.
“The league (and HBO) can only require a team to appear on Hard Knocks if they have failed to make the playoffs two years in a row. I’m anxious to see the Jets and the many ex-Packers on Hard Knocks this summer – should be very entertaining.”

Other than not making the playoffs for two years, teams must not have a new head coach and must not have been on Hard Knocks within the past 10 years to be considered. Along with the Jets, the Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints and Washington Commanders are the other teams who fit all those requirements.
New York has already made it clear that it does not want to be a part of the show. However, their current situation would unquestionably make for the most entertaining television and, thus, draw the most eyeballs.
In addition to adding the four-time MVP quarterback, the Jets also boast last year’s Offensive Rookie of the Year in receiver Garrett Wilson and Defensive Rookie of the Year in cornerback Sauce Gardner. They also have running back Breece Hall, who is making his way back from a torn ACL. That group has many predicting that not only will the Jets end their playoff drought, but also potentially compete for a Super Bowl.
New York is set to begin its training camp on July 22, so the deadline to decide which team will be on Hard Knocks is fast approaching.
