Greg Biffle: Video captures moment of former NASCAR driver's horrific plane crash

Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, his family and three other passengers died in a plane crash Thursday morning at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina. Now, TMZ Sports has shared video of the horrifying incident.

You can check it out HERE, courtesy of TMZ. Security footage captured the jet engulfed in flames after it crash-landed, resulting in the death of seven in total.

Shortly after Biffle’s death was confirmed, NASCAR released a statement on his passing: “NASCAR is devastated by the tragic loss of Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, daughter Emma, son Ryder, Craig Wadsworth and Dennis and Jack Dutton in a fatal plane crash,” the statement read.

“Greg was more than a champion driver, he was a beloved member of the NASCAR community, a fierce competitor, and a friend to so many. His passion for racing, his integrity, and his commitment to fans and fellow competitors alike made a lasting impact on the sport. On the track, Greg’s talent and tenacity earned him championships in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, as well as numerous wins and accolades in the NASCAR Cup Series.

“Beyond his racing career, he gave of himself for the betterment of our community. Most notably, Greg spent countless hours of his time helping the citizens of North Carolina during the disasters that followed Hurricane Helene. His tireless work saved lives. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Greg’s entire family, friends, and all who were touched by his life.”

Following the news, the National Transportation Safety Board has released a statement, as well: “Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board departed Washington Dulles Airport at about 5:30 pm ET Thursday and are en route to North Carolina to begin their investigation of Thursday’s accident involving a Cessna 550 airplane that crashed on return to landing following departure from Statesville Regional Airport,” the statement read.

“The NTSB is leading the investigation of the crash, which occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m. NTSB Member Michael Graham is expected to hold an initial media briefing on the investigation on Friday.”

Greg Biffle remembered as one of the best drivers of his generation

Biffle’s family confirmed his death in a statement obtained by Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. According to Garrett Mitchell, best known as Cleetus McFarland on YouTube, the Biffle family was on their way to spend the afternoon with him and his family.

Biffle, his wife Cristina, daughter Emma, and son Ryder were all on the plane. Dennis Dutton, his son Jack, and Craig Wadsworth also died in the crash. Biffle was 55.

Biffle made a name for himself in NASCAR in the late 90s and early 2000s, winning a Truck Series championship in 2000 and an O’Reilly Auto Parts Series title in 2002. He raced full-time in the Cup Series from 2003-2016, driving the No. 16 Ford for Roush Fenway Racing.

Biffle compiled 19 wins in NASCAR’s top series. He finished runner-up to Tony Stewart in the Chase for the 2005 championship.

Biffle was heavily involved last year in Hurricane Helene relief efforts in western North Carolina. At a time when North Carolina needed help, Biffle helped provide it.

He used his personal helicopter to get supplies to people in western North Carolina. Additionally, his Venmo account accepted donations to pay for the fuel and supplies that were being delivered.
